Best Digital and Digital SLR Cameras for Underwater, Scenic and Adventure Travel

Travel Photographs Without the Cost of Professional SLR Photographic Equipment

Sheri Fresonke Harper
Digital cameras are the most cost effective way of capturing your travels in digital form. Because traveling can be expensive, exhilarating, and full of exploration of new ideas, places, people and environments it is important to get a great digital camera. Many people hope to save some memory of that adventure to remind themselves of all the fun they had and to show their friends bits of the world and want top quality images without the costs of professional cameras. Here's my picks of the best but not professional quality digital cameras.

Pick a Sealife Digital Camera for Underwater Photographs Taken During Travel

Sealife makes two models of 10.1 pixel underwater cameras with special modes that help correct for underwater lighting conditions. They are lightweight, feature built in flash, 25x zoom, long life batteries and can operate above ground, too. These are the cameras amateurs take on their snorkel and dive trips. Sealife's cameras are the only ones that do not support exchangeable lenses, although they do support this capability, the prices are much higher than those included here.

Pick a Digital Nikon or Digital Canon for Your Scenery and Action Photographs Taken During Travel

Nikon has several models of digital SLR Camera, the latest models offering noise reduction, video, and GPS for tagging the location of the shot. The D5000 and D90 have 12.3 megapixel precision, noise reduction and video, while the D40 has 6.1 Megapixel precision.

Nikon Digital SLR D5000 With Video and GPS

Nikon Digital SLR D90 With Video

Nikon Digital SLR D40 : I bought this one before these newer models came out, read my review.

Canon EOS50 Digital SLR camera and Canon EOS Rebel Digital SLR with the Nikon Digital SLR cameras with 12.3 megapixel precision, video, and noise reduction. Choose one or the other.

Choose the Olympus or Pentax Digital Ruggedized Handheld Camera for Fit in Your Pocket Adventure Travel Photographs

The Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 Digital Camera version has 14 megapixels precision photographs, is shockproof, waterproof to 33 feet deep, crushproof and freeze proof and does video.

Pentax

The Pentax Optio W90 Digital camera comes in two colors, with 12.1 megapixel precision photographs and 5x zoom. It is shockproof, waterproof, dustproof and coldproof so it will travel wherever you choose to go.

Most of these cameras are the latest offerings from terrific companies and will meet your photograph needs in many different situations. The only advantage of the two digital SLR cameras is they can support a variety of lenses that aid in taking distant wildlife photographs and close-ups of nature.

My Daughter just got certified so this review is perfect timing for an idea for a birthday gift. Thanks.

Very nice reviews. I always wanted a camera that I could use underwater, but now my chances of doing a lot more snorkeling or diving are limited, and so is money, so I can hardly justify it.

If we ever start to go on more beach vacations this is something I would get my husband so he could scuba dive and take photos.
