Runyan Canyon. Runyan Canyon is not technically a dog park, but you can hike with your dogs off leash. It's one of the most beautiful spots in the city with views spreading out from Pasadena to Playa Vista. Located in Hollywood your chances of running into a celebrity are very high. Justin Timberlake, Cameron Diaz and the like walk their designer doggies here. Be prepared for a good work out hiking the hill and enjoy the people watching. Runyan Canyon is Hollywood at it's most wacky, eccentric and beautiful. Located at 2000 N. Fuller, north of Franklin.
Sepulveda Basin. Like, this is totally the Valley and it does get hot in the summer, but is a wide open vista with great parking and lots of trees to escape from the hot Encino sun. There are three separate areas. One for large dogs, one for small dogs and one for small and or timid dogs. The park has an easy going atmosphere and it's huge! Located at 17550 Victory Blvd between Victory and White Oak in Encino.
Playa Vista. Playa Vista has not one, but two dog parks! People love their dogs in this community and it shows as both parks are super nice. The old park is called Longwood or the Bark Park by the locals. It has two separate areas for big and little dogs and is made of grass.
The newer park is called Oberrieder Park and is made of wood chips. The park is also divided according to size. It's not huge, so if you're dog needs to run, it might not be the place. Both parks have a much more sanitary community fountain where the dogs can get their drink on and not slurp out of bacteria laden bowls. (like they care, but you might like it better!). Longwood is located at Villosa Place between Kiyot Way and Seawalk Dr.Oberrieder Park is at the corner of Bluff Creek Dr. and Seabluff Drive.
Calabasas Bark Park. If you're out in the wilds of the west Valley, this is a great smaller park. It's in a residential neighborhood on the way to the beach. There are two sections, one for big dogs and one for small dogs with lots of benches and seating under trees. It's a lovely environment with a nice local crowd that comes regularly. People are friendly and responsible dog owners at the Bark Park. It does get crowded in the late afternoons and evenings and parking is not unlimited. Located at 4235 Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas
The Boneyard. The Boneyard is in Culver City and although it's a bit on the small side, it's got a great friendly crowd who just love their doggies. There are two separate areas and although the lack of shade can be annoying for dog owners, the dogs do pretty well. Culver City isn't the Valley and it's pretty rare that it's scorching. The Boneyard also has a great view of the city and lots of parking. Located at Jefferson Blvd and Duquesne in Culver City.
Those are just some of the many places you can take you pup. So, no excuses. You both need to get out and play!
