Best Dressed Golden Globes 2011 Actresses Include Angelina Jolie, Olivia Wilde

Golden Globe Fashion Dos: Gorgeous Green Gowns, Va-Voom Red & Elegant Neutrals

The best dressed Golden Globes 2011 red carpet looks were as varied as the actresses that rocked them for the cameras. Elegant restraint competed with vibrant colors and sparkly gowns for approval. As did long-sleeved loveliness and strapless wonders. Angelina Jolie beat Olivia Wilde out for the best dressed actress at the Golden Globes by a hair. Literally.

Angelina Jolie Shines in Emerald Green

Nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical, for her role in "The Tourist". Angelina Jolie didn't win a Golden Globe but was the best dressed. In a long-sleeved, slightly boat necked, back-exposing and floor length Atelier Versace, Jolie was a statuesque vision in sparkling emerald green.

The color brought out her stunning eyes and added depth to her wavy styled brunette locks. Jolie's accessories included Robert Procop jewelry, Ferragamo heels and a gorgeous Brad Pitt.

Also slinking down the carpet in beautiful green gowns were Mila Kunis (nominated) and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Olivia Wilde Almost Best Dressed

That Marchesa dress. Those shoes. Perfection. Unfortunately, there was also that hair.

Presenter and "Tron: Legacy" leading lady Olivia Wilde walked down the red carpet like a modern princess in wicked looking, yet delicately wrought, gold spiked Christian Louboutin booties. They were the perfect touch to her strapless antique gold graduated sequined and chocolate brown tulle ball gown.

Accessorized with Tiffany & Co., she would have been the jewel of the Golden Globes red carpet if her hair hadn't of been so flat and boring. Best Dressed is about overall appearance, the fact that Wilde still comes in second should tell you how amazing her dress and shoes were.

Also making the Golden Globes 2011 best dressed list in brown is movie star Anne Hathaway, in a phenomenal amber Armani Prive and Swarovski crystal embroidered gown. The form-fitting long sleeved dress was remarkably similar to Angelina Jolie's in structure, only with delicately puffed shoulders. The effect was entirely different, though, thanks to the almost snakeskin-like texture.

Subtle Elegance and Racy Red at the Golden Globes

Several actresses tried vintage Hollywood, almost flesh toned or pale pink glamor. Some hit and some missed horribly (Christina Aguilera). Among the best dressed of these actresses were pictures of gorgeously fluid femininity. Among the successes was Scarlett Johansson in a floral appliqued Elie Saab and Jimmy Choos. The full sleeved dress was kept from being too sweet with her avante garde updo, a welcome change from the majority of actresses who played it safe with their locks on the red carpet.

Sandra Bullock (nominated) was also notably understated in a pale pink and exquisitely tasteful embroidered Jenny Packam Grecian inspired gown.

The most notable lady in red would have to be Sofia Vergara (nominated), in Vera Wang dress with a black belt. Eddie Falco looked extremely elegant in her Valentino Couture, one strap gown. She gets extra credit for matching the right shade to her skin tone, not a given on the 2011 Golden Globe red carpet.

Daring Fashion of the Best Dressed

Two celebrities who took a chance with their gowns and scored are Natalie Portman, Golden Globe winner for "Black Swan", and Heidi Klum. Portman's delicate pink strapless Viktor and Rolf with red rose detail. The rose added a delightful surprise to an already pretty gown.

Klum arrived in a sexy striped halter dress and red platform sandals, both by Marc Jacobs. Honestly, the look would have looked hideous on anyone else. But she is Heidi Klum and it looked daringly smashing, fun and fashionable. Plus, she rocked some seriously cool bangles.
