Irish Car Bomb - An Irish Car Bomb is more than a drink. Its a celebration in a pint glass.
A St. Patricks Day favorite, the Irish Car Bomb is a beer cocktail made from stout beer (Guinness), Irish whiskey (Jameson), and Irish cream (Baileys). It is a very simple drink to make and it is always a crowd pleaser. Irish Car Bombs are a fun social drink that is popular in Irish pubs and bars throughout the world.

Irish Car Bombs are a delicious way to bond with new and old friends. The fun behind drinking an Irish Car Bomb is not only the consumption of alcohol but the speed at which you drink. People can become very competitive trying to finish first. The reason this drink needs to be finished quickly is because when the shot of Irish whiskey (Jameson) and Irish cream (Baileys) is dropped into the stout beer (Guinness) the beverage begins to curdle and lose its delicious taste. These factors have contributed to a fun and playful culture behind drinking Irish Car Bombs.

1 pint glass
1oz shot glass

½ oz Irish cream (Baileys)

Traditional Irish Car Bomb Recipe
1. Pour the stout beer (Guinness) into a pint glass until it is about ¾ of the way full.
2. Combine the Baileys and Jameson to a shot glass. Layer the Irish cream (Baileys) on the bottom and the Irish whiskey (Jameson) on top.

How to Drink
1. Drop the shot glass into the pint glass and chug.
2. Repeat because you'll want more.

Culture of Drinking
Irish Car Bombs are a social drink and it is common for large groups of people to order them. When this happens the bartender lines the drinks up on the bar one by one and everyone waits to proceed until each person drinking is holding their pint glass in one hand and their shot glass in the other. This is usually followed by one member of the group making a toast with everyone holding their shot glasses in the air. After the toast everyone simultaneously drops their shot glass into their pint glass and drinks as fast as possible. Drinking Irish Car Bombs quickly becomes a competition as many people will race to finish first. When people complete their drink they slam down the pint glass on the bar to make everyone aware of who has finished. Although there is usually no prize many people take great pride in being able to drink their Irish Car Bomb faster than their friends.

Free Drinks?
On occasion the bartender will challenge you to drink an Irish Car Bomb faster than them. Bartenders use this to get their patrons to order the high priced drink. If the bartender wins you pay for your drink. If the bartender loses then your drink is free. Bartenders that use this strategy to get their customers to order an Irish Car Bomb rarely lose. Even if you do "lose" it's a winning situation because drinking an Irish Car Bomb is delicious. If you win it's even better because free drinks taste the best.

The morning after a bar crawl in NYC to raise money to erradicate cancer I woke up covered in blood with a stab wound in my back. The last thing I remember is the entire bar was lined up with at least 20 Irish Car Bombs. It was beautiful.
