Do you live in Memphis? Are you visiting during September and wondering what to do? Here is your guide to the best events in Memphis during the first week of September 2008.

Delta Fair and Music Festival - August 29 through September 7
One of Memphis's best festivals, it is held at Agricenter International, the fair hosts live music, rides, fair food, carnival midway, rodeo, motocross stunt riders, dare-devil stunt riders, and more. The price of entry is $8 and up. Call 435-7150 or check out deltafest.com for more details and specific times of events.

Cooper Young Night Out - September 4
This monthly event is held in the Midtown neighborhood that is known as the historically hip entertainment district of Memphis. During the event restaurants and other establishments in the district stay open late offering discount specials and live music. The Cooper Young Night Out event is free and occurs every 1st Thursday from 5 to 9 pm. For more information call 276-7222 or check out cooperyoungnightout.com

Big Scoop Ice Cream Festival - September 6
This annual benefit event raises money for Ronald McDonald House Memphis. Held at Autozone Park the event features ice cream, treats, games, entertainment, costumed characters, live music, dance and a magic show. The event costs $7 and lasts from 11 am to 4 pm. Downtown Memphis Farmers Market - September 6
The Downtown Memphis Farmers Market meets at Central Station Pavilion at G.E. Patterson and Front and has a family-friendly health-focused atmosphere and is open 7am - 1 pm Saturdays through October 25. You can get fresh, local produce, meats, baked goods, flowers, herbs, and other homemade goods. On-site pet-sitting, cooking demos, vendor talks, health screenings, and live entertainment is also offered. Weekly produce varies and is shown on the market's website memphisfarmersmarket.org or call 575-0580.

Downtown Chalk Art Festival - September 6
This event is part of Architecture Month 2008. You can enter this AIA chalk art competition or just show up to enjoy the creativity on display. You can vote for best of show or enjoy Balloon Man Mike, face painting, live music and more. This free event will be held at the Memphis Farmers Market from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Germantown Festival - September 6 & 7
This festival offers arts, crafts, food, entertainment, and activities for kids. Don't miss the "Running of the Weenies" dachshund race in the Charity Horse Show arena on Sunday afternoon. The festival, held at C.O. Franklin Park, is free and times vary so call 757-9212 or check oout ci.germantown.tn.us for more details.
