Best Fake Movie Trailer

Mortal Kombat

Niki Tungren
I love super hero movies, movies based off of comic books, and yes, even movies based off of video games. Having played Mortal Kombat as a child, I was familiar with the characters from the start. Then they came out with the movie in 1995. With Christopher Lambert as Rayden, how can you go wrong? Honestly, the movie is pretty cheesy. Despite that, it happens to be one of my favorites. I have been a fan of this movie since it has come out and love that it is now on Netflix Watch Instantly.

Last year I heard about the third Mortal Kombat movie. Needless to say (but I'm going to anyway), I immediately researched it. What did I find? I found a trailer, and more than that, the trailer was epic! It starts out in a police station, and you see a name on the door of an office, Jackson Briggs, but the "o-n" have fallen off. Who else could it be besides the ever so awesome Jax. He is talking to a handcuffed prisoner. He is recounting a few gruesome deaths by villains from the game and the death of Johnny Cage. I won't tell you too much about it because you really need to watch it.

What makes it so amazing? Well, if you think back to the first two movies, you'll remember the action scenes that were sub-par and the writing that was quite awful. I must admit, I still love the Johnny Cage/sunglasses bit. If you haven't seen the movie, let me sum it up for you: there is a tournament and the prize is earth. Fighters come from all over Outworld and some come from Earth and they participate in Mortal Kombat. Since the world hasn't been taken over by Shang Tsung, we can assume that the fighters from Earth won. One final word to describe this movie: ANGST.

Now, let me explain why I was so excited about this trailer. It looked legitimately good. It looked like a movie I wouldn't want to make fun of as I watched it. It's like the difference between the Michael Keaton's Batman versus Christian Bales' Batman. This trailer had all of my favorite characters (watch the trailer to the end and you'll find out who my favorites are!), it had an awesome Johnny Cage / Baraka fight scene, it had intrigue, and (for the guys out there) it had Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade. I was heartbroken when I found out this trailer wasn't real.

So, check out the trailer and prove me right
