It's harvest time in Indiana and there are some great local farmer's markets selling locally grown produce and home produced wares like soap, honey, bread and baked goods, eggs and meat. Support your local small farmer by shopping at one of the farmer's markets in Madison County Indiana this weekend! There's nothing like taking $20.00 to a farmer's market and coming home with baskets full of wonderful fresh food!

Elwood Farmer's Market is at the corner of South Anderson and B Street in Elwood IN June 13-September 26 on Saturdays from 9 to 1 Contact Teri Kane 765-635-7967

The Greenfield Farmer's Market is held each Saturday and each Wednesday from 8-12 at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds at 620 N. Apple Street. This is a huge market with almost 50 vendors on an average. Contact Dan Lowe 765-763-8702

The Farmer's Market at Minnistrista in Muncie, at 311 W. St. Joseph Street, is another huge market offering lots of variety in homemade wares and homegrown produce. Saturdays from 8 to 12 and Wednesdays from 4-6. Contact Minnitrista Museum at 765-282-4848 for more information.

The Markleville Farmer's Market is located in the central Community Park on Saturdays from 9-Noon. Contact Cindy Keaton at 765-533-3154

Pendleton Farmer's Market is my personal favorite because of the large number of vendors who are small farmers and neighborhood gardeners. It's on North Broadway behind the Village Pantry each Saturday through October 10 from 8 to 11. Contact Dwayne Huntziner 765-778-8839

Yorktown Farmer's Market is at the Community Library on the southeast corner of 32 and Tiger Drive clear through Thanksgiving Day on Fridays from 4-7.

In addition to these community Farmer's Markets there are some local small farmers and growers who have their own Farmer's Market at their farm.

Hanna Family Farms in Frankton is open through October with eggs and chickens available year round. Vegetables available during growing seasons through October. 4429 W. 850 N. This is just a great little family farm, loved my visit to it last week! And especially loved the eggs and the chicken we had for dinner!

Huntzinger's Market is right down the street from this writer and it's a nice little farmer's market and farm with pick your own pumpkins starting next week! Open M-F from 9 to 6 and Sat. from 8 to 12.

Landess Berry Farm has more than berries at their farmer's market. Open through October from 10 to 6 Sunday through Friday. www.landessfarm.com

Smith Family Farms at 7055 W. 675 S. in Pendleton In, runs a October only Farmer's Market focusing on their pumpkin farm complete with all the pumpkin and fall activities you can imagine; pony rides, wagon rides, pumpkin picking, arts and crafts, farm fresh freezer beef and of course pumpkin picking!

There's more than corn in Indiana. There's some great farmer's markets close to you. Check one at this week for super bargains and locally grown produce and support your small farmer and his or her business!

    I used to shop farmers market all the time, I dont' really anymore but would like to pick it up again, thanks for this... :o)

    You are definitely spoiled for choice. Ours have been pretty lame this summer. With all the cold and rain, everything's been late. Even in my own garden, the tomatoes are just really coming into their own.

    I love farmer's markets. There are quite a few around here where I live and one in particular that I like to visit. You can't beat the taste of freshly picked fruit and vegetables!
