Best First Date of 1998

Divine Inspiration Brought Us Together

Bubba
My first date with the Queen Goddess was an early example of our love journey. I hadn't dated in almost thirty years. This was before internet dating, Match.com,. eHarmony.com, so my techniques are a bit dated and perhaps could be labeled full of Honeyfuggle. I've been told by a few romantic friends they are still better than a keyboard beginning to a relationship.

I've been told if you want a life partner go where you feel at home. If you are a church goer go to church with eyes open, and an open mind. If you are a reader look for a book discussion club, make sure to tell all your good friends,... etc.

AA saved my life. I mean in many ways beyond my addiction to "feel good chemicals". I put the word out to everyone that I was interested in finding a new mate. Most folks knew before I did...That's the AA way.

I was living with my eldest daughter, her hubby, 2 labs and a cat in a 12' wide trailer home. I had survived the pain of a divorce after a 27 year marriage, four heart attacks and a quadruple by pass. I was almost 50 so, didn't relish any dating games. I got a phone call from a beautiful woman saying she would like to share a trip to the Stoney Ridge flea market. This was a huge annual affair.

The day began with a morning AA meeting. We returned to the trailer for a lunch I had prepared. Cheese Cannelloni simmered in a tomato basil sauce. My daughter was there as a chaperone...no hanky panky today. Later the Queen Goddess said she was worried about the impression she was making but knew I was "safe"

We arrived to the football size field and began to snake through the isles of fun stuff to drool over. We were both in a giggling mood. We laughed and tried on hats. We saw some unique turquoise jewelry. I made a mental note (This gal likes jewelry) I did a bit of my Yiddish style haggling but even my lament "Before the time of Abraham and Jacob this was a good deal!" no sale today.

I felt the Queen Goddess' body tighten. A voice from across the isle sweetly saluted "Well Hello there!" It was the Queen Goddess ex-husband with the woman he was involved with. I smiled said "HI" wrapped my arm around the Queen Goddess' waist and walked quickly away.

There was a bench near the end of that row I sat her down and walked over to get a Diet Coke to share. When I returned, just as I thought, she was in tears, shaking like a leaf... When we had finished sipping the Diet Coke I lied "I'm getting cramps in my gut. Would you mind if we went back to your place and watched a movie? I have a new copy of Fly Away Home I know it's a movie about Canadian Geese and you said that was your favorite animal."

I'll admit I didn't know how tenderhearted the Queen Goddess is, we both cried through the whole movie... It was a 2 hanky movie. The Queen Goddess shared her favorite comfort meal was Cream of Mushroom soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. I made her a small pot of homemade Cream of Mushroom soup and a triple decked grilled cheese sandwich to share. With that high far, high carb, hot meal and all the emotional roller coaster of the day we fell asleep in each others arms.

We both awoke early in the morning. I looked into her eyes and said "Thank Ms Conley for a delightful day and the best nights sleep in ages." She looked @ me a began "Thank You Mr.... (we only use fist names in AA and she couldn't remember my last name) Bubba is now your name." The Queen Goddess claims I reminded her of the character Bubba from In The Heat of the Night

That was July of 1998...It was the best date yet in 1998. Today our love journey has many best yet dates. None of them began with Match.com,. eHarmony.com, etc

I'll admit to using a bit of Honeyfuggle to win the Queen Goddess daughter over. First I dropped off a loaf of Banana nut bread and a fresh fruit salad. Two days later I dropped of a Bubba's PMS Cake. It is a cake with 7 kinds of chocolate that I developed when I had 2 daughters and a wife that craved chocolate at the same time of the month. I invited myself to supper Friday night. I came about Noon and made a slow cookin' hearty Beef Barley soup and a chocolate covered cherry pie. Oh what a wonderful night that was!!!!! Mizpah
