Best Florida Beaches to Watch the Sunset

Eric Brennan
Florida has some unique geography. You are able to watch the sunrise at the beach on one side of the state, and then drive to the other side of the state and watch the sunset at another beach. But with so many top beach destinations, which one is the best? From historic forts to amazing nightlife to complete isolation-Florida beaches have it all. Check out these best Florida beaches to watch the sunset to find the perfect spot for enjoying the end to the perfect day.

HoneymoonIsland

In 1939, New York developer Clinton Washburn purchased Hog Island off the coast of Dunedin, Florida. He partnered together with Time magazine and held an essay contest in which winners received an all expense paid trip to Honeymoon Isle. They constructed 50 small thatched huts with palm frond roofs offshore, then flew them in and assembled them on the beach. Photographers and press were invited along to photograph the newlywed couples in various scenes. It's hard to imagine sharing a four mile stretch of beach with over one hundred people.

Today the huts are all gone, but the island is still a popular destination for newlyweds and many marriage ceremonies are held on the beach each year. This is a great state park to visit and costs only $8 a car to access the island. After a day of beachcombing, settle back and watch that great big red ball sink into the Gulf of Mexico. St. JosephPeninsula

This north Florida panhandle beach has been rated the best in the state on several occasions and also one of the top beaches in the nation. Miles of white sugar sand shores and clear as a bell waters, it's so close to paradise, you may never leave.

And you don't have to. In fact, staying the night here is almost as nice as the fantastic sunset. Whether it's in one of their top of the line cabins complete with all the amenities or you bring an RV or tent and stay at the full facility campground, you're sure to have a great stay and a great view of the awesome spectacle of a Florida beach sunset. Visit the website here for more details on getting to this number one beach in the state.

FortZachary

Besides the unbelievable sunset, Fort Zachary Taylor State Park has some unique history and some great nightlife all rolled into one. Located on Key West, there is always something going on at the park or nearby in town. The 1866 fort is just as exciting to explore as the beach is beautiful. Offshore coral reefs and tropical fish in these clear waters are some of the best in the state. And getting here is easy-just take the southernmost road in the nation to the southernmost beach in the nation!

After a relaxing day lazing on the beach, snorkeling the tropical reefs and touring the fort, grab a snack and a drink at the concession stand and settle down on the south side of the island for the perfect sunset. Visit the website here for more details on park operations.
