Idaho Fly-Fishing Instruction

Idaho is the home of the famous Snake River and home to many other exquisite rivers and trout streams. It has long been known as one of the most perfect states for fly-fishing guided trips and tours. Fly-fishing itself has come a long way in the last decade. The sport is not nearly so expensive as it was and it's possible to get geared up and fishing for under $500. The lures have become more adaptable for fishing warmer waters with sinking lures to catch fish that feed deeper. Though Idaho has some of the best cold-water trout fishing anywhere, people can learn the sport here and apply their skills anywhere in the country. Some outfitters offer true lessons with groups and some will teach private lessons to individuals.

Turn a stay at the River Dance lodge into a learning experience of your life. This lodge also offers a fly fishing clinic in the fall and complete beginners will learn to fly-fish and experienced anglers can perfect their technique. The rivers fished during the day are just an hour or so away from the lodge. They are also connected with the Row adventure outfit. The fly-fishing trips take place on the Lower Selway and the Middle Fork Clearwater Rivers. Lodge rates from May through June are $168 for a two-bed weekend cabin and $195 for any day during July and August. A fly-fishing package for Three Nights / Two days of guided fishing will cost 2 people $799, 3 people $699, 4 people $649. Keep in mind that lodging and all meals are included in these prices. Toll-free reservations and information can be queried at 800-451-6034.

http://www.flyfishidaho.org/ Probably the most important group for any people wanting to learn and keep learning from is the Fly Fishers of Idaho. This is an organization that exists to teach and inform the public about fly-fishing and to promote the sport. Their meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at the Idaho Department of Fish & Game Headquarters building located at 600 Walnut Street in Boise. They have various activities and usually an educational or fun film of some recent trips. Anyone interested in fly-fishing should join for the camaraderie and the learning. They plan many trips together during the year, too. A family membership is only $30 for the year. Every meeting includes some lesson in an aspect of fly-fishing and there are always new things to learn. Contact them at webmaster@flyfishidaho.org

Row Adventures is a outfitter that offers fishing on the Clearwater River, which was designated by Congress in 1968 as one of 8 wild rivers in the country. These are recognized because of water quality, wilderness and resources values. Both 1-day and multi-day trips can be arranged with them. One or Two Anglers will cost $395.00 and each additional one will be $195.00. This is the cost for a daylong trip. You will have to contact them about the fly-fishing training, however, as their web site does not include this information. They also offer longer trips and make arrangements for groups. Rods 'n Reels Out West is the division that conducts the Idaho trips. Call these folks for more information at 800-451-6034.
