Best Foods for Great Looking Skin

Mara Oakes
A range of factors including genes, environment, diet and skin care can affect how your skin looks and feels. The good news is that a 'healthy skin diet' can keep your skin looking glowing and fresh. Here are some top picks of foods for great looking skin.

Fruits

A healthy skin diet includes lots of fruits. Oranges are great for skin because they are high in vitamin C. If possible, opt for organic fruits. I recently started eating a large peeled orange at breakfast time and have noticed that my skin feels softer and has more color.

Vegetables

A diet rich in vegetables can help to keep your skin supple. The antioxidants found in vegetables and fruits can combat damage to skin cells which leads to signs of aging.

Fish

Oily fish such as tuna and mackerel are full of omega-3 fatty acids which can help keep skin soft and supple. Try adding oily fish to your daily diet and you will probably notice a difference in the softness of your skin. Alternatively, there are fish oil caplets which contain omega-3 fatty acids.

Drink plenty of water

Drinking eight glasses of water a day can really improve the look and condition of your skin. Try it for a couple of days and see if you notice a difference.

Take your vitamins

Check with your doctor to see what vitamins or supplements he or she recommends. Taking a normal dose of supplements such as vitamin E, aloe, fish oil and vitamin C can help keep your skin looking youthful and nourished.

Besides watching your diet, here are a few more tips to help keep your skin looking great:
Avoid the sun.

You've probably heard it a million times. It's true, however, that exposure to sun can contribute to the signs of aging. Here are some tips for dealing with the sun to prevent the signs of aging: Wear a high level sunblock. Wear it daily or whenever you will be in the sun. Wear a sun hat with a tightly woven broad rim. (Those with an open weave allow sunlight to penetrate). This leads to our next tip: If you want a sun-kissed color without exposure to the sun, try a natural, non-toxic bronzing powder or lotion to give yourself color. Instead of a 'real' suntan, use a natural bronzing powder or lightly tinted lotion to give yourself color. It is much better for your anti aging pursuit than prolonged sun exposure.
