A well-balanced diet does wonders for the body. But did you also know that a balanced diet does wonders for the hair? That's right: we are what we eat in every sense of the word. Whatever we eat has an impact not only on our bodies but also on our skin, mind and hair.

One of the most important nutrients that the hair needs is protein. Protein is the building block of the human hair. Therefore, the hair needs protein to become fuller and thicker. Also, research has shown that hair follicles can have low energy levels just like a person would. So to revitalize the hair eat more protein-rich foods. Remember also that the more protein that is in the hair, the stronger and fuller hair follicles will appear. Protein can be found in chicken, turkey, fish and eggs.

Foods that are rich in complex carbohydrates are also good to eat for healthy hair. Complex carbohydrates are good for hair health because they help to assemble the building blocks of the hair. That's right, complex carbohydrates helps to build up protein in the hair follicle.

Vitamin B is also another essential vitamin for healthy hair. Vitamin B12 and folic acid provide hair follicles with energy so that they may grow strong and healthy. Also, foods that are rich in iron, sulfur, magnesium and zinc are good for hair health. A healthy hair is dependent on a number of vitamins and minerals, so try eating a diverse range of foods to help with your quest for good hair.

Antioxidant vitamins are also nutrients that are good for the hair. Foods rich in vitamin A and E help to keep the hair healthy and vibrant. Vitamin A is important for hair growth and follicle strength. To get more vitamin A in your diet try eating more fresh fruits and vegetables (especially bright colored fruits and green leafy vegetables) to get the phytonutrients from these foods. By eating just a bowl of mixed berries at breakfast or a healthy serving of spinach at meal time can really improve the look and feel of your hair in no time.

Vitamin E and foods that contain vitamin E are also essential to hair growth. Foods that contain vitamin E stimulate blood flow throughout the body that helps hair to grow. Also, you may want to increase your intake of biotin in your hair care regimen. That's because biotin is also essential to hair growth ad strength. There are even some shampoos nowadays that come fortified with the active ingredient biotin.

Another food group that is important to hair wealth and strength is sulfur. Eat foods that contain the element sulfur for great scalp. Great hair begins with great scalp, so eating foods that contain sulfur should improve the look and feel of the hair in just a matter of time.

No hair care regimen would be complete without water. Water keeps the body hydrated and working at its optimum level. Drink five glasses of water per day to keep the scalp hydrated and to remove toxins from the body. Healthy hair starts with a healthy diet, so watch what you eat to improve the quality of your hair.
