Having acnes or large bumps on the face can be quite an embarrassing experience. But living with acne day in and day out during your teenaged years can mean the death of your social life. So what are you to do to help prevent or treat acne and get your social life back on track? Well, you can start watching what you eat for one. That's because a healthy skin comes from a healthy diet. Foods that are high in trans-fat and sugars lead to breakouts and acnes. Fried foods, bacon, red meat, ice cream, milk and cheese should be eaten in moderation to prevent acne breakouts.

The best way to treat acne is to rid your diet of excess junk food, sugary, fatty and processed foods. Turn to fresh fruits and vegetables instead to help you treat acne. Fresh fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins A, C and E as well as many beneficial plant chemicals (phytonutrients) that repair and nourish skin cells. Fresh berries, oranges, tangerines and grapefruits provide essential vitamins and minerals to the skin that help treat and prevent acne. Also vegetables such as pumpkin, tomatoes, squash, kale and broccoli have been shown in studies to combat acne, so try eating more of these foods to have better skin.

The mineral, chromium, is another essential nutrient that fights against acne. Chromium helps the skin to heal from infections that can lead to acne breakout of the skin. You would have to take chromium supplements to get adequate amount of chromium in the diet as foods alone cannot provide the body with the daily recommended dosage of chromium.

Increasing your fiber intake can help you to treat and prevent acne. Fiber-rich foods such as apples, avocados, grapefruit, Brussels sprouts, whole grain bread and cereals help the body remove toxins that may lead to acne and skin damage. Also, as you increase your fiber intake, increase the amount of water you drink per day. Water also helps the body to flush out toxins that may lead to acne and it also rejuvenates and revitalizes the skin.

Complex carbohydrates and lean proteins also help in the fight against acne. You can find complex carbohydrates in foods such as rice, whole grain bread, wheat-germ and cereals. The lean protein found in chicken, fish and tuna also helps the body to stamp out acne.

You should also turn to foods that contain zinc to fight acne. That's because zinc helps to regulate the production of sebum in the oil glands. Sebum is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that keeps the skin shiny and moist, but when too much sebum is produced in the skin its build up leads to pimples and acne. Zinc also helps the skin by ridding it of damaging free radicals and helping it to heal from wounds and scarring. Eat foods such as milk, artichokes, lettuce, liver, crab, eggs, fish and olives to get your daily serving of zinc.

Complex B vitamins are also essential vitamins that fight against the formation of pimples and acne. Vitamins such as thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid and pyroxidine help to make skin vibrant by evening out the tone of the skin and relieving the body of stress that can lead to wrinkling. So to prevent and treat acne breakouts, try to eat more founds that are rich in B vitamins. You can find B vitamins in foods such as bananas, potatoes, lentils, tuna and liver.

Eating foods that are known to provide healthy skin can help the body to treat and prevent acne for good. Your skin care regimen should include a healthy diet, as facial scrubs and creams will not work properly if you are filling your body with junk foods. So remember to add more foods rich in fiber, zinc, chromium, vitamins A, B, C, E and other nutrients to help treat and prevent acne.
