Best Free Learning Websites for Preschool Children:

Rebekah Haas
It is amazing how many free learning websites are now available for parents to use to help their children learn. If necessary, a parent could probably teach their child preschool for free, utilizing these online resources. Not only are they educational, these websites are fun and creative. Here is a listing of some of the best learning sites for preschoolers:

1. http://www.starfall.com
This learn-to-read site is extensive and well-done. There is a section for the early beginner where you can click on each letter of the alphabet and hear the sound as well as see pictures and play games related to that letter. The whole format is interactive. The activities progress from the A,B,C's to early learning to read to more advanced reading. There are fun learning activities for all the holidays also. The website is offered free as a public service. Writing journals and books are available through starfall.com at a low cost and can be used with the website or separately.

2. http://www.dltk-teach.com/alphabuddies/index.html
This site has "alphabuddies" for every letter of the alphabet. When you click on a particular letter you can view crafts, coloring pages, games and puzzles, mini books, and songs related to the letter. Also, you may generate tracer pages based on each letter-in either Zane-Bloser font, cursive font, or D'Nealian font. French and Spanish pages are also available for printing.

3. http://www.kinderprintables.com/
There are many good resources available on this website for Pre-Kindergarten through second grade. This site was actually designed for teachers, but there are many resources that parents will also be able to use. This site has math activities as well as reading, and there are printable number flashcards and number tracing pages. There are also printable books available on this site for emergent readers, and weather material for science learning. For teachers, there are a lot of handy materials such as bulletin board ideas, send-home note templates, teaching tips, circle time ideas, and more.

4. http://www.handwritingworksheets.com/
If you have a child who need extra handwriting help (like my four year old), this site is just fantastic! It allows you to input whatever you want your child to write (including their name, address, etc), and creates a traceable writing worksheet for your child to complete. You may choose basic print in dot trace, dash trace, or hollow trace; D'Nealian style in dash trace; or cursive in separated letters.

Obviously this is not a complete list of the free learning websites available for preschoolers, but the ones I have listed are among the finest. Enjoy using these resources as you work with you work together with your preschool child.
