Martin Luther King Jr. coloring pages are a fun activity to make part of your MLK Day, black history month, or any day celebrating American heroes. There are several websites offering free Martin Luther King Jr. coloring pages to print out. Unless the kids planning on coloring are very young, I prefer the more realistic pictures of the civil rights leader. The following are links to some of the best free Martin Luther King Jr. coloring pages that offer more realistic portrayals.

Teacher Vision

The website Teacher Vision has a couple of free Martin Luther King Jr. coloring pages that are realistic in style.

The first one is a simple portrait of the civil rights leader. He has a somewhat serious expression in the picture. In addition to the portrait, there is a phrase typed above which reads: "January 15 is Martin Luther King's birthday. Martin Luther King was a great American. He worked hard for black people and poor people. He was a great speaker. He won the Nobel Peace Prize." You can view this picture on the Teacher Vision website. The page is printable from a PDF file.

The second one is a picture of the civil rights leader wearing a suit and tie. There is a decorative border design around the portrait which many kids would find fun to color. There is also a description of who he was and what he did for Americans. This description is constructed for slightly older kids than the previous one described. You can view this picture also on the Teacher Vision website. It is also printable from a PDF file.

Edu Pics

The website Edu Pics has one realistic free coloring page of Martin Luther King Jr. It is a picture of him mostly from a profile. From their website, you can download the image in either a small or large size. Or you can print it directly out. Go to Edu Pics to view the printable coloring page.

Preschool Coloring Book

You can find another free Martin Luther King Jr. coloring page on the website Preschool Coloring Book. This one is an image of the civil rights leader giving a speech in front of three microphones. The background is made up of the Liberty Bell. The only downside to this free printable page is the it contains a lot of black areas which will take more of your printer ink to print out.

Class Brain

Class Brain has a free MLK coloring page that is available in a PDF file. This one isn't as realistic as the others mentioned, but it still is not as cartoonish as some other sites either. In this printable picture, MLK appears to have his eyes closed as he is looking downward which gives him a more somber expression. To print out, open the PDF file. (You must already have a program on your computer to open PDF files.)
