As many make their strategic battle plans and plot their course to hit the big cities on Black Friday, people in the quiet rural town of Boonevile, Arkansas shake their heads and wonder why. Thanksgiving Day will be a day of entirely too much food, spending time with family and friends, and maybe the occasional backyard touch football game - that is, if everyone doesn't flop out for a nap instead. The last thing anyone is thinking of is braving traffic, crowds, long lines, and crazed bargain hunters the next day. Matter of fact, the residents of Booneville, Arkansas aren't even planning on getting dressed! What are these people thinking? Do they not realize Black Friday is almost an American Tradition? The day after Thanksgiving day sales are legendary! On first impression, you might think these folks are in a turkey stupor. However, they know something you don't.

Every year the town of Booneville, Arkansas goes just as crazy with bargains, steals, and deals as any large city does. However, we do it in our pajamas! That's right! It's called The Booneville Merchant's "Get Up And Go!" Sale. And as the name insinuates - that's exactly what you do. Women, children, and yes- even men, hit the small town's streets dressed in their flannels and fleece in search of savings. Most of the downtown merchants open around 7:00 a.m. but Wal-Mart will begin their sale at 5:00 a.m. in accordance with their Corporate policy. Several merchants will have free coffee and donuts for the scantily clad customers, and most will wrap up the special promotions around 10:00 a.m. so you need to get out early! The ones who arrive really early usually fill the main street parking very fast, so I would recommend you park in the dirt lot of the Bear Cat Café, or across the street from the Bear Cat at that dirt lot. It's within easy walking distance of the downtown and Main street area. The Bear Cat will be open early as well, so you can have a nice breakfast or coffee, or make arrangements to meet up with family and friends there.

The "Get Up And Go!" sale always raises a few eyebrows, especially those of the uninformed traveler or passer by. It's not often that you see an entire town running around in their pajamas. Glenn M. Parrish, Editor, of the local newspaper, The Democrat, had this to say about last year's event:

"Thanksgiving week is always a bit odd around here. Every year we run the advertisement for the pajama party after Thanksgiving Day sale at several of the local merchants. Every year I wonder if anyone actually shows up in their PJs. Until Friday, every year I have resisted the urge to find out. Oddly enough. They do. For any of you men wondering what type of PJs worn by mostly females - who else would start shopping at 7 a.m. - shoppers, I guess you'll just have to go see for yourself."

If braving the traffic, crowds, and long lines of the big city doesn't appeal to you, you should "Get Up And Go!" to Booneville! Booneville, Arkansas is located along the Petit Jean River in Western Arkansas. It is situated along the north edge of the Ouachita National Forest, at the foot of Mt. Magazine. Booneville is located at the intersection of Arkansas Scenic Highway 23 and Arkansas Scenic Highway 10. Come for the beautiful scenic drive, come for the pajama party fun, or simply come to see this for yourself - it's guaranteed fun for all, so why not "Get Up And Go!"
