Best Friends Forever

Daniel Gonzalez
Julie opens her eyes "I'm in love with him and that's the problem." She thinks to herself. She turns on her side and pulls the pillow over her head. It's only been a few hours since she's talked to John. The phone rings, she pulls the pillow off of her head and grabs the phone "Hello." She pulls the pillow back over her head. "I talked to him last night. I said last night!" She pulls the pillow off her head again. "Jesus, Shannon you have the worst hearing. I said last night!"

Shannon sits at her kitchen table with a bowl of cereal in front of her. She has the phone in one hand and a spoon in the other. "What are you talking about, my hearing? You're the one still in bed at noon talking into a pillow." Shannon puts her spoon in the cereal bowl. "So, has anything changed?" Shannon asks spinning the spoon around the bowl. "No," Julie says "He just doesn't realize that I like him and like most guys once they're hung up on one girl they can't see anything else in front of them." Julie pulls the covers underneath her chin as she glances at a picture on her nightstand. It's a group picture with John standing on her left side with his arm on her shoulder at a party.

"Yeah, I know what you mean." Shannon says and puts a spoonful of cereal in her mouth. "How would you know? You haven't had a date in like two years." Julie says. "Yeah, but at least I'm not pining for some guy who's been stringing you along for a couple of months now." Shannon says with a mouthful of cereal. "Yeah, you've always been there for me, you're my bitch." Julie giggles.

"Hmm, it sounds like you're mine if you're always running to me after a guy dumps you or doesn't like you." Shannon laughs. "If you were a guy, I'd keep you all to myself." Julie looks at the group picture with John on her left side and on Shannon her right side. Shannon has her arm around Julie's waist. "May be I don't have to be a guy." Shannon quietly replies. "Yeah, you're right." Julie says she puts her hand on her forehead. "What are you talking about?" Shannon asks nervously. "I think I've finally seen what has been in front of me all along." Julie says softly "What?" Shannon smiles. "I think you should come over and make me breakfast. We've got a lot to talk about." Julie smiles. The End.
