Eat fruits instead of cake and your bound to lose weight. However, some fruit may make you hungry for more food. While incorporating more fruits and vegetables into your diet is good for your health, eating the right fruits will help help you succeed in dropping those pounds because the right fruits will keep you fuller for longer periods of time.

Some fruits have what is called a high glycemic index. Foods with a high glycemic index will increase the body's sugar levels rapidly. Foods with a low glycemic index will increase sugar levels more slowly. Low glycemic index foods will make you feel less inclined to eat more because because energy will be slowly released into your blood stream.

Apples

A mere 38 on the glycemic index scale. Eating one or more apples a day will keep you fuller for a longer amount of time than other fruits that are higher on the scale. Combine apple slices with protein rich peanut butter to also help you stay full and fend off the temptation to eat other unhealthy foods.

Peaches.

A 28 on the glycemic index scale, peaches unfortunately are ripe only in the summer months, but if you live in a geographic location where it's always hot, you'll probably always be able to find peaches. High in water content, peaches will keep you full and they'll satisfy your sweet tooth.

Grapefruit

Known for it's large size and pink color, grapefruit is the star of many diet programs. It has a glycemic index of just 25 and it will make you so full, you may find it hard to eat the whole thing.

Fruits high on the glycemic index include watermelon, grapes, pineapples and raisins. They all have a glycemic index of 50 and higher. While these fruits are still healthy, they may not keep you as full as fruits low on the index scale. Eat them for good health, but if you want to stay on your diet, choose fruits that will make it easy for you to consume fewer calories throughout the day.
