Georgia Bamboo Plant Nurseries

Gwyn Guess
Georgia has a good climate for bamboo, and many types of clumping as well as the colder-hardy running varieties can survive in the coastal areas around Savannah and near the Florida border. Some of these companies draw people from all over the country with their mail-order business, but most have active local activity as well.

The Big Bamboo company is really an interesting nursery because it also has other areas of sales: flooring, fences, poles and even lumber for building! There are links for these, but it is required to call them first, toll-free, to make orders or find more information: 1-866-854-0019. This company even offers design services for bamboo installation of ceilings, wainscoting, and bar fronts. It is especially great that they sell rolled bamboo fencing in pre-ordered specifications. As for purchasing plants, the company will provide plants in a variety of species up to 50 feet in height, so some consultation would be needed regarding the type of plant required. They will also provide potted plants that may develop into 50-foot plants.

Argo Farms grows timber, black, golden and many ornamental varieties and sells container plants.
www.GeorgiaBamboo.com
Georgia Bamboo sells black, timber, golden, and other ornamental varieties in containers. Local sales are only by appointments. Field dug specimens, bamboo poles, and other unique plants also available. Most of their stock sells for $25 to $45, so this is considerably less than many other growers in Georgia and neighboring Alabama. The farm is 35 miles southwest of Atlanta and they serve that metro area and all other parts of the south. They list their bamboos by description; click on any of these links to see the appearance and find growing habits of a particular species. It's really neat that they sell Poke Salat and give all sorts of recipes and information about its medicinal and nutritional value. They can also be contacted by email at Argo.Farm@gmail.com.

Aaron's Farm grows all sorts of bamboo for both the nursery business and retail customers. What I think is neat is that they also sell many other types of plants, from flower bulbs, flowering trees, fruiting trees, shrubs & hedges, grapevines and berry plants. They have chestnut trees and palm trees also. Chestnuts are exquisite trees and seem to be coming back in this country. Using them for bamboo purchase would give you a source for some other landscaping plants to use with the bamboo. I'd call and ask about this: toll-free 1-800-913-9347. Be aware that the bamboos are listed under "Trees" when you look for links. They also list the suggested varieties of bamboo that are best to grow in the temperate American Climates. Just be aware that they sell only running bamboo. Aaron's claims to sell plants at 30%-90% off competitor nursery prices.
