Best Gaming News Sites

Trisha Bartle
As a gamer, I can never get enough of the latest gaming news. I like to hear about new games in production or which games will be made into a movie or even what new company has been bought out by Electronic Arts.

With all this potential news, a lot of gaming news sites have sprung up in recent years. Instead of wading through the muck, check out some of these tried and true gaming news sites.

GamesAreFun.com
Games Are Fun (GAF for short) has a limited but fruitful news listing. Although they don't update as often as some of their competitors, their selection of stories can be helpful to certain gamers. They tend to mostly report on news that revolves around Role Playing Games, console and software sales figures, and Nintendo. If those topics sound at all interesting to you, bookmark them.

GAF also has a large game database. If you want to know when Tetris Attack was made and for what system, you'll find the answer. They also let their users list all of the games they own so they can show off their video game collection to their friends and enemies.

1up.com
Although 1up is a site with a wide range of video game related content, their news section is well fleshed out and constantly updated. When entering the site, click the 'news' heading to start reading the latest gossip. 1up seems to mostly focus on gaming company related news. If you want to know what Blizzard or Vivendi is up to, this is a good place to look.

In addition to their video game news, they also have a wide range of video game reviews and previews. If you're wondering how a game is, search here before purchasing it.

EvilAvatar.com
Presenting their news in a message board format, Evil Avatar specializes in mostly social and popular gaming news topics. For example, they'll post on a kid selling their virginity for an Xbox 360 or pictures showing the overwhelming lineups at an electronics store. Their news pieces are less serious than that of other places.

Since their news comes in message board posts, users are encouraged to reply with their thoughts and feelings about a topic. This is a good way to build a community in which to discuss the latest gaming trends.

Joystiq.com
Joystiq offers their news up in a blog format that makes for a relaxed and personal feel. Less journalistic than some of their counterparts, Joystiq specializes in personal style opinion pieces and reactions to gaming news. They offer a human feel rather than the relaying of facts that places like 1up provide.

Since their news is blog-style, users are encouraged to comment on news items with their opinions. This is similar to Evil Avatar, although Joystiq has a better look and feel and a different range of news.

For my gaming news, I tend to go to all of these sites. If you don't feel like going to each one individually, there are some websites that showcase the news from many. GameTab.com lists the recent news articles from a wide range of gaming news websites. This is another option for the video game nerd who loves to hear all about the industry.

Whichever method you choose, you'll be a lot more informed in the end.
