The King Sunset Nursery has been operated by the same family for over 75 years, so they are really experienced in the nursery business and know about the area quite well. Over the years they've expanded to what is now 500 acres of trees and shrubs at wholesale to suppliers and dealers. They are members of the South Carolina Nursery and Landscape Association. They may still sell to the public but check to make sure. They advertise that they have bi-weekly specials and advise to check on the web site for them. I didn't see any listed now, Feb, 2007, but I'd call to see if there are any available. Call them toll-free for advice and information or to tour their nursery: (888) 843-6880

Palm Trees and Garden Center of South Carolina is located in the gorgeous Isle of Palms, across the Charleston River from the city. They're open M-Sat, from 8-5, and from 11-4 on Sunday. This nursery doesn't just have palm trees. They have a wide variety of plants and specialize in carrying the newest and best species suitable for planting in the Carolina LowCountry. Their palm selections are huge. For avid gardeners and landscapers, there's a great range of birdbaths, benches, fountains and containers. In addition, there's full service landscaping available for both homeowners and developers. There will be two more locations, if not already open, at Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach.

Hyams Garden Center has a great reputation for service and their plant quality and varieties. It's a beautiful place just to wander around in and get ideas. They have a selection of plants not available in many other stores. People love how they help with questions and go out of their way to take plants out to customers' cars. It's locally owned and convenient to get to. This is a full-service garden center with soil amendments and tools as well as plants and trees.
