Best Gifts for Fans of ABC's Lost

Is anyone on your gift list a fan of Lost? Take a look at the great things you could buy for them:

Lost - The Complete First Season DVD
Lost - The Complete Second Season DVD

These DVD sets are perfect for someone who has only started watching the show recently and would like to catch up. Because each episode builds on the ones that came before, new viewers' enjoyment will be greatly enhanced if they watch the old episodes.

Even people who have watched the show from the beginning might enjoy owning the DVDs. They are packed with extras. The First Season includes commentary by the producers, audition tapes, background on the genesis of the show, deleted scenes, bloopers, and more. The Second Season includes unaired flashbacks, conspiracy theories, "Secrets of the Hatch," more deleted scenes and bloopers, and more. Also, even viewers who have been onboard from the start might enjoy rewatching the episodes. Each one is packed with clues to the show's various mysteries, and many of the clues go by so fast that viewers will have missed them the first time around. Each season's set lists for $59.99, but Amazon sells them at a discount.

The Lost Soundtrack CDs

Music is a big part of the Lost experience. The original orchestral score by composer Michael Giacchino is often very eerie. It adds to the show's overall atmosphere of mystery and strangeness, and increases the tension people feel when they watch, sometimes to an almost unbearable level! At other times, the music is exciting or romantic. It's unusual for a musical score to play such an important role in a television show; it's more common for that to be the case in the movies. In 2005, Giacchino's score won the Emmy for best underscore for a series.

Many fans were eager to be able to buy a copy of the soundtrack. But they had to wait a long time. Finally, in March, 2006, a CD was released of the first season's soundtrack. Then on October 3, 2006, a second-season CD was issued.

The retail price of the first-season CD is approximately $14.00, and for the second season, it's approximately $16.00.

Lost Wall Calendar

The 2007 calendar features photographs of the main characters, posed in island settings. Alas, Sawyer appears to have his shirt on! With a retail price of around $10, this would make a nice inexpensive gift.

Lost Action Figures

To me, these seemed really campy. I'm not sure if they were intentionally meant to be funny, but they cracked me up. There are six different figures, each selling for $18.95 at the official ABC Lost store. You can look at them and pre-order them now, although they won't be shipped until December 6, 2006.

Each figure comes with a prop and a sound chip which recites some of the character's best lines. For example, the Shannon action figure, who is shown lying on a beach towel in a bikini while the plane burns behind her in the background, says, ""What's a four-letter word for 'I don't care?'" The other action figures are Charlie, sitting in his hoodie; Kate, walking through the bamboo; Jack emerging from the wreckage; Locke discovering the hatch; and Hurley playing island golf.

I wouldn't be surprised if these became collector's items.

The Lost Chronicles: The Official Companion Book

This book contains detailed episode guides for the first season; interviews with the cast, writers, and creators; and color photographs. It comes with an hour-long DVD that contains outtakes from the show. Good choice for dedicated fans. It sells for about $13.00 on Amazon..

Lost: The Official Magazine

There's a whole magazine dedicated to the show! It comes out six times a year, and features interviews with the writers and stars, news, and other goodies. This could be an unexpected gift for a hard-core fan. Available on Amazon for $37.95 for a one-year subscription.

But wait, there's more ...

You can find more gifts, including t-shirts and coffee mugs, at the official ABC store.
