Many of the folks that come to Hawaii come to play on the golf courses. Kauai is said to have some of the best golfing on all of the Hawaiian Islands. The following is the best golfing on Kauai.

The Prince Course located at the Princeville Resort Kauai is the ultimate golf course, and one of the best golf courses in all of Hawaii. Golf Digest often rates it number one of all island golf courses. The course, which opened in 1990, was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. The course features close to 400 acres of challenging holes along the rolling hills, cliffs and gorges of north Kauai. Hole seven is considered very challenging as the players hit their ball over a gorge onto a narrow green. This is not a beginner's course. Standard course fees are about $175; reduced rates are available for hotel guests and Hawaii residents.

Kauai Lagoons Golf Club, located near the Kalapaki Bay, was the best golf course on the Kauai until The Prince Course took over. Kauai Lagoons Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus course that opened in 1988. This course is considered one of the toughest golf courses on Kauai. The terrain is thick and lush with woodsy covering along the cart path. Many holes offer expansive views of the azure blue Pacific. Course fees are about $170. Kauai Lagoons Golf Club offers discounts with some resorts, and local rates are available.

On the south shore of Kauai is Po'ipu Bay Resort. This golf course was also designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., and is also one of the best golf courses on Kauai. The course features beautiful cliff-side fairways and perfectly groomed greens. Holes fifteen, sixteen and seventeen are played along the Pacific and in winter months golfers may be lucky enough to see whales migrating south. Standard golf course fees are $185. Po'ipu Bay Resort also offers discounts to guests of the Hyatt and local residents.

If you are looking for a great game of golf that will not bust your budget, check out Kukuiolono Golf Club. This used to be the nine-hole private golf course of sugar magnate Walter McBryde. He donated the course, along with a maintenance trust, to the residents of Kauai. The course is not very challenging, but it is great for beginner golfers. When using this course, be sure to check out the Japanese garden at hole eight, this is the resting place for Walter McBryde.
