Best Hairstyles for Women Over Fifty (50)

Updo's Are Great for Women Fifty or Older

Malina Debrie
When fifty or older, shorter hair styles and updo's tend to make an amazing difference in the way women look. Wear short styles and updo's to enhance your best features while minimizing features that show signs of aging. Hide the smile lines and other lines that define time. Take a look at some females in their 50's wearing short styles that make them look younger than their biological ages. They seem to defy time just by moving hair from one side to another, moving it up or shortening the style.

The Updo Swept To One Side

Two Versions of this gorgeous style indicated can change a woman from drab to fabulous. The style works well by bringing the focus from the jawline and neck up to the eyes. When wearing large bold earrings with this style, it seems to alter the entire face. Enhance the appeal by adding a fashion hairpin or leave It as is with no hair accessory. Not only do the two work when out for the evening, you can wear either during office hours or when out shopping or enjoying family outings. Play around with the two styles. Change them to reflect your own individual style or wear them as indicated. Your hairdresser can help you if you feel you cannot accomplish the sweep the way you want. Or, just sit in front of your mirror for a few hours. In time, you will have a good handle on one or the other or even both.

Short Yet Elegant

One of the things we forget to do when we grow up is to play. Playing is a natural part of life. Even when trying to determine new ways of doing the same old thing, playing can be vital. Take time to play with your hair. The style pictured in this link is one that shows a playful side. Yet the same style can be worn even in the executive boardroom. Todays woman looks for ways to embrace her age when maintaining a youthful appearance in their 50's, 60's and even 70's. Today more than ever before women realize "Age ain't nothing but a number" limited only by their desires and minds.

Down Around and Swept To One Side

We all know Angela Bassett is one of Hollywood's most glamorous stars. Angela can look amazing even with bad hair. This style works amazingly The style works well on her and almost any female in her 50's or older. Simple, yet elegant, the style can be very versatile. Wear it while washing your car or walking the dog. Want to make heads turn when entering a diner? Try this one the next time you go out to lunch or dinner at your favorite restaurant. Heads will turn and you will see looks of envy and of interest. Wear this one to your next class reunion.

Short with Lots and Lots of Curls

If you think you can, you can and this style is definitely one that most women in their 50's and older can wear. Not only is Amy Irving adorable, she is gorgeous sporting this short curly style. Most females with curly hair can carry this one off without even thinking about it. Others will need the help of a hairstylist. However, the cost and time is well worth six weeks of carefree charm.

Beauty is all about taking the time to reach inside and search for ways to make yourself feel better. Most women in their 50's or older tend to feel old but will not allow themselves to look "old." Take time to gain a handle on your body, emotions and life and watch while you begin to show signs of youth being rejuvenated. Embrace and enjoy every minute of your life.

OMG - I fight my curls every step of the way!! However, if it's real straight it drags my face down and ages me.

Hey Malina, I just got back from a 3-day camping trip and I'm swamped in my inbox. Slowly catching up reading and commenting. I need to change my hairstyle so I'll probably return and reread this later (after I catch my breath again!) cheers:)

Nice ideas - but I don't like it when someone says that once you are over 40 or 50 you need to wear short hair or curly hair - I cut my hair short because of a statement like that and now that I have grown it out I look 10 years younger than I did with it short.

I can't have short hair as my hair is still growing way too fast.
