Best Halloween Costume - Be Primal

So, you and the old ball and chain are sick and tired of showing up to Halloween parties as prisoner's wearing a ball and chain. You've been Adam and Eve (or Steve - depending). You were once Hansel and Gretel. Now you want to make a bold statement. You want to be primal. You think, cat!

No, not just your run of the mill kitty. But something out of the deepest brush of the jungle. But this is a theme party and your better half has to play a part in this primal theory.

Ladies, you're the hunter and he's the hunted. But you say, "I'm the cat". Well, here's how it will look. Follow this formula and you'll have the best costume at the party

CAT

Women, whether you're a size 2 or 22, this will be fun. But you have to be daring (drunk will work just as well) to pull it off. You will need a unitard (dancers bodysuit) to match the kitty you choose to be - black for panther, brown for lion, white for Siberian tiger.

Most costume stores sell tails and ears. Coordinate them with your unitard.

Now get those 6 inch stelleto's out (keep it color coordinated). These are your paws.

If you are not comfortable with the idea of prancing around in heels and a unitard, give your kitty a personality - doctor kitty (put on a lab coat and let the tail hang out) cheerleading kitty (surely you can find a cheer leading outfit at a thrift store or costume store) glam kitty (break out some faux fur and cover everything up. Just enhance the makeup and hair) housewife kitty (got a robe?)

If you can't find a wig with that Queen of the jungle flair, pin curl your hair.

- part your hair in sections

- twist each section individually into little cinnamon buns

- keep in place with hair pins

- Mist with setting spray or hair spray

If you have naturally curly hair, this will look fierce! If your hair is sort of flat, wash it first, let it air dry then gently blow dry. Follow the same recipe for the pin curls. This should be done at least six hours prior to departing for your party.

My suggestion is to just get an afro wig from a local wig shop. And don't forget your nails. This is the only time of the year I will put on fake nails.

But, most commercial costume stores have kits with step by step instructions on how to get that fresh cat look.

HUNTER

Your man will wear hiking boots, khaki pants (cargo shorts would look better) a khaki shirt, ascot and hunting hat. Funny professor glasses may give it a quirky flare.

Here's the kicker. You will need a dog collar large enough for your man. Because you see, you have caught the hunter and continue to reign as queen of the jungle.

Since gun laws have changed, and carrying anything that resembles a gun may get you locked up, opt for a whip. Coil the whip and hold it under your arm as you walk into the party with your prey on a leash.
