Best Halloween Costume Shops in Tampa, Florida

Where to Get Your Halloween Costume

Jessica Ann
This is a subject I know well as I spent a lot of time last year searching every store I could for a particular costume, In my search I managed to find a few unknown shops as well as the regular stores that carry a great selection of costumes. Whether your looking just for the kids or for something special for yourself, you should be able to get exactly what you need at the following stores.

One of the easier places to take care of all your Halloween needs, including a decent costume selection, can be found at Party City and they have several locations so check out partycity.com for the one closest to you. A great place to get relatively inexpensive costumes for the kids and yourself if you're not too concerned about great quality. They carry a large selection of pre-packaged costumes for infants to adults within a price range of around $13 to $75. You've probably experienced the quality of the material before so don't expect too much as most of the outfits can feel pretty flimsy. You also won't need to visit anyplace else as you can get all your accessories right here too. You should remember though that they sell out quickly as it gets closer to Halloween, so get your costume early if you're needing something specific.

Spirit Halloween is comparable to Party City, so this is another option and may possibly have a location closer to you. There are several locations throughout the area, so please check out their website and enter your zip code for the closest location. Some locations will be opening soon so make sure you call to find out when each location is ready for customers. Again, a wonderful shop to find all you need for Halloween needs from costumes to props, accessories to party favors. The price range is also reasonable and similar to Party City. This is a good place to grab a quick $40 costume for a last minute party, or, in case you're into it, for anytime of the year.

Features Costumes - 3015 W. Barcelona Street, Tampa. Unfortunately, their website is down and they aren't sure when it will be up again. If you want to check to see if it is up, their site is featurescostumes.net. However, you can always just call them as the staff there is extremely helpful and friendly. Their number is 813-835-0200. This is certainly the place you want to go if you want a better quality costume. The other benefit of this shop is that they both sell and rent costumes. Also, if you're still seeking something in a lower budget, they do carry the pre-packaged costumes just like you'd find at Party City. If you happen to be familiar with it, this is also the costume shop that supplies the costumes for the pirates at Gasparilla. They carry all sorts of costumes though, including authentic looking Batman costumes, Southern Belle and Star Trek. Yes, it is possible to spend the day as Captain Kirk which I think is every man's mid-life crisis fantasy. Seriously, if you have a costume party to go to, at any time, then this is the shop that will get you dressed up and the envy of all your friends.

Rena's Wild Wear is located at 4023 W. Waters Avenue in Tampa just west of Dale Mabry Highway. Don't be startled if you visit the store without checking out their web site first as this obviously caters to exotic dancers. This is not a store for children so keep that in mind. However, they also have a great selection of costumes which are Halloween party appropriate. The link I attached should take you right to their on-line store and all the costumes they can get for you. When I stumbled across this store I happened to be searching for a pirates outfit and they have some great choices here. Most of the costumes are on the fairly to extreme sexy side, but most provide more than ample coverage. Just keep in mind they are all designed to be hot and sexy. As I mentioned, I was seeking a pirate wench outfit and I love the choices here. You would be amazed at the quality of these costumes for the price. They range in an average price from around $45 to $120, though you may get something for a little less on sale or you may want to spend a little more to go all out. Gangsters, Snow White, Harem Girls, Nurses, Sailors and Western outfits, just to name a few, are what you can find here. You can also get a fabulous hat to go with your outfit (some will come with them and some won't) and other accessories. There is also a great selection of wild and sexy shoes to round out your new sexy costume. Please call for hours and directions at 813-884-5800 or just link to their website above by clicking on the store name at the beginning of this review.

Squaresville Vintage Clothing located at 508 S. Howard Avenue in Tampa could also be an option if you're in need of a retro costume. This is a great place for clothing options from the 60's and 70's. Looking for an authentic go-go dancer outfit and white patent go-go boots? This would be the place. If your husband wants to "pimp," again this is the right place. Give them a call for hours and directions at 813-259-9944
