Best Halloween Costumes for Teenage Girls

Mary Lamphere
Teenage girls are so picky about what they will or will not be for Halloween. As a parent, every year when Halloween comes around I wish that just this once my teenage daughter would quit being so picky about something that is supposed to be all about having fun! Yet it's same old same old, she gripes and complains at nearly any Halloween costume that I suggest...So I set out to come up with some new ideas that maybe even teenage girls would love to be for Halloween. No more complaints, no more old school mom--Just awesome Halloween costumes for teenage girls!

Halloween Costumes for Teenage Girls: Corpse Bride

The corpse bride is a fun one for teenage girls on Halloween. This Halloween costume consists of an old wedding dress (which you can usually pick up at a thrift store such as Goodwill) a veil (you can purchase or make with a headband and some tulle from the local fabric store) and lots of bloody makeup. Begin by taking the wedding dress outside and scuffing or dirtying up the bottom and a bit of the front of the dress to create a "fresh from the graveyard" look. The veil should be bloody, have leaves stuck to it, or at least be dirty to complete the costume. Makeup consists of blood, gore and of course a bit of dark eyeliner around the eyes to create black rings of death! Your teenage girl will love this Halloween costume!

Halloween Costumes for Teenage Girls: Gothic Fairy

The Gothic scene is often a popular style for teenage girls throughout the year--if this sounds like your teen then Halloween may just be complete with a Gothic fairy costume! Begin with a dark dress, pair it with a pair of fishnet stockings (can be purchased at costume store for under $5) and throw in some knee high boots. Now, create some sparkly wings for the costume using an old coat hanger and a pair of stockings. White pantyhose work best. Bend the coat hanger into the shape that you desire each wing to be in and then pull the panty hose over the wire to create the actual wing. Using glitter and glue the wings can be glamorized to her liking!

Halloween Costumes for Teenage Girls: Disco Dancer

Well, it's not the most original Halloween costume ever but for whatever reason it really seems to win her heart! The disco dancer is a cheap and easy to put together Halloween costume that most teenage girls actually like! A flashy dress (cut super short of course) paired with a pair of knee high boots completes the look. Best of all--this is one night that you can let your teenage girl go out with all the makeup she wants on, and if that doesn't make her just love this Halloween costume then there's no telling what will!

Halloween Costumes for Teenage Girls: Dead Cheerleader

The dead cheerleader costume is perfect for teenage girls that actually cheerlead already. No need to purchase a costume--she already has it! Some bloody makeup on her face, a fake scar across her neck, or a combination of additional makeup techniques can be used to make her look dead. This Halloween costume also works well for creating a zombie like cheerleader. Teenage girls can throw their hair up in a messy ponytail or pig tails and place grass, moss, or leaves throughout the hair to make it look as though they just came up from the grave. My teenage daughter found this to be a great idea to do with her cheerleading squad buddies on Halloween last year!

Halloween Costumes for Teenage Girls: Twilight

Any of the Twilight characters seem to be very popular this Halloween. Bella, Edward Cullen, or any combination of the Twilight characters seem to be a bit hit amongst the teenage crowd when Halloween comes around. To create a Bella costume for teenage girls this Halloween all you need is a regular pair of boot cut jeans, a trendy tee, and some makeup. If your teenage daughter already has pale skin then you are even one step closer to the Twilight themed costume for her. Accentuate the eyes with eyeliner and a dark shadow, thrown on a pair of sneakers or boots and a jacket to finish the look.

This still didn't help my daughter. She isn't picky. She just didn't let her creative juices flow! She's afraid of her older sister laughing at her costume and making her feel bad.
