Kids of all ages get excited about Halloween each year. As a child enters those tween years, it may get more difficult to find a costume idea that is age-appropriate and inexpensive. Here are some great costume ideas that are sure to please a tween while not breaking a parent's bank account.

Pop-Star

For the pop-star enthusiast, a tween girl can put together a hip but inexpensive rock star Halloween costume. Jeans and a print shirt already hanging in the closet provide the foundation for this tween Halloween costume. Accessorize with big earrings, a gaudy necklace, wig, make up, and a tween is transformed into a famous singer. Slinging a guitar over the shoulder would be the perfect added touch to this Halloween costume.

Bag of Jellybeans

An unusual tween Halloween costume is a bag of jellybeans. Get a large, clear plastic garbage bag and cut two holes in the bottom for the legs and two holes in the sides for the arms. Reinforce the holes with clear packing tape. Once the tween's arms and legs are in the holes, blow up different colored balloons and stuff inside the bag. Loosely tie a ribbon around the top of the bag to secure at the neck and the sweet tween is a colorful bag of jellybeans!

Gypsies

Gypsies make a terrific but inexpensive tween Halloween costume for girls. Start with a long and full white skirt. Tie a colorful apron on top of the skirt. Find a coordinating blouse with long sleeves and elastic at the wrists. A thrift store is a great place to find one of these. Wrap a scarf around the gypsy's head and tie it on the side so that a long scarf tail hangs past her shoulder. Add some gold hoop earrings and the gypsy will be dancing her way toward a fun tween Halloween costume.

The President

A boy with pride in his country could dress up for Halloween as the current President of the United States. A suit, a tie, and some nice shoes are all that's needed to make this patriotic tween Halloween costume. With a pen in hand to sign bills and his pillowcase in the other hand to collect candy, a tween boy might be inspired to enter politics someday!

Lumberjack

For the outdoor enthusiast, a great tween Halloween costume idea is a lumberjack. Find a flannel shirt, jeans, work boots and a hat. Make a fake axe by using aluminum foil for the axe head and attaching that to a dowel. The lumberjack can make his way from house to house yelling, "Trick or Timber!"
