Best Hamburger Topping Ideas

Kay Whittenhauer
Hamburgers are such an American classic they've become a staple in most of our diets. The funny thing is, if you ask ten people what makes a good hamburg, you're likely to get ten different answers. I think the best hamburger has ketchup, mustard, onion, and layer of pickles on top. However, most people beg to differ.

Here are some unique ideas for easy and delicious hamburger toppings:

The Asian Burger: Top a hamburger with soy sauce, chopped green onion, and diced water chestnuts to give it a crunchy Asian flare.

The Caliente Burger: Habanero peppers, salsa and pepper jack cheese fire up this hamburger!

The Cheese Lovers Burger: Melt Swiss cheese and cheddar cheese on top of the hamburger, then place the hamburger on one piece of toast and top with a grilled American cheese sandwich.

The Classic Restaurant Burger: It seems like every restaurant has a hamburger topped with bacon, mushrooms, and Swiss cheese, so why not make one at home?

The Deluxe Burger: Not very unique, but pretty popular- this one's got lettuce tomato, and mayo on top.

The Greek Burger: Top a hamburger with crumbled feta cheese, diced cucumber, and tzatziki sauce for a Mediterranean flare.

The Meat Lovers Burger: Bacon, a thin layer of shaved ham, and a small ladle of meat sauce on top of a hamburg patty makes for a meat lover's delight!

The Mexican Burger: Try a hamburg with guacamole, diced tomato, and melted Monterrey jack cheese

The Picnic on a Bun Burger: You could do this at a picnic, or make one in the kitchen to remind you of summer. Top a hamburger with picnic favorites like barbecue sauce, cole slaw, and crushed potato chips

The Oktoberfest Burger: German mustard and sauerkraut top a hamburger served on rye bread. When you serve it with a beer the Oktoberfest Burger is wunderbar!

The Philly Burger: Serve a hamburger with a Philadelphia flare by topping it with grilled peppers, grilled onions, and melted Cheez Whiz.

The Pizza Burger. Marinara, pepperoni, and melted mozzarella turn a regular hamburger into a pizza burger.

The Tex-Mex Burger: Dollop some salsa and sour cream on your hamburger and sprinkle with diced jalapenos.

Each of these hamburger topping ideas gives the burger a totally different flavor. Which one is your favorite?
