Best Hawaiian Resorts and Hotels for Families

Rochelle Connery
Indulge your whole family in a plush Hawaiian resort during your Hawaii vacation this year. Just because you're traveling with the kids doesn't mean you should have to sacrifice the luxury of private balconies, scenic mountain views or designer amenities. In fact, some of the most luxurious resorts in Hawaii cater specifically to families with separate sleeping and lounging areas and multiple bedroom accommodations.

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea

The Four Season Resort Maui at Wailea features several guest rooms and suites with garden views or ocean and beach panoramas where guests can throw open the windows and enjoy the sea air and bright sun. Certain suites at the Four Seasons, such as the ocean-view one-bedroom suite, accommodate up to two adults and three children, more than the average two adult and two children layout.

Bathrooms feature glass showers, marble tub, marble flooring and double-sinks in many accommodations. Bathrooms are spacious enough for several occupants to prepare themselves for the day simultaneously.

Four Seasons continues the tropical atmosphere in the dining experience, with candlelight table arrangements in front of a fountain surrounded in palm trees, outdoor seating with a gorgeous view of the ocean or comfortable seating in individual restaurants. Indoor and outdoor culinary experiences include Wolfgang Puck's Spago and the extraordinary Duo. Experience Hawaiian culture in the food with mahi mahi fish, Japanese beef and a selection of signature drinks.

As of 2010, average room rates start at $445 per night.

Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa

Though not perhaps as opulent as the Four Seasons Resort, the Hyatt Regency in Maui still offers fabulous rooms and suites with ocean and garden views, spacious bedrooms, private balconies, separate living spaces and some complimentary amenities.

Most rooms contain video on demand, high-speed Internet (fees not included), coffee maker and coffee and a copy of the New York Times Digest, if you can count that as an amenity. Some rooms also come with refrigerators where guests can stash late-night snacks or leftovers from the on-site restaurants.

Speaking of dining, the Hyatt Regency offers nine restaurants and bars for Oceanside dining, breakfast only, lunch and dinner and traditional Lu'au experiences. Get your true Kona coffee indulgence at the Halona Kai coffee venue or order premium seafood and steaks at the Son'z Maui at Swan Court.

As of 2010, average room rates begin at $394 per night for the summer season.

Kona Village Resort

Treat the family to a private accommodation in one of the bungalows at the Kona Village Resort in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Bungalows feature authentic thatched rooftops, rugged porches and complimentary meals for each occupant.

Guests can take advantage of the private Jacuzzis and plush bath robes in the bungalows after a day spent lounging on the white sandy beach. The resort offers a children's program (ages 5-12) with oceanfront activities and allows all guests to use snorkel gear, kayaks, boogie boards and surf boards for free after the initial orientation lesson.

Guests will also enjoy the on-site fitness gym, golf, tennis courts and massage spa. As of 2010, average rates begin at $245 for the summer season. Most accommodation are more than $500 per night.

$400 a night! I can rent a cabin for a week for less than that in the Allegheny Wilds. Who needs room service! They sound great, if you can afford it, tho.
