While toddlers love to explore, they may not do well with an incomprehensible Easter bunny basket hunt. At this age, you want to keep the hiding spot fairly obvious. Contradictory, I know, but your tot may not understand the strange concept of a big Easter bunny hiding an Easter basket full of goodies. 'Hide' the baskets on the kitchen table when your toddler is around two years of age and an inconspicuous corner for age three. Other ideas for hiding the Easter basket include: on top of the washer / dryer or on the stove, kitchen or bathroom counter.
Easter Basket Hiding Tips for Pre-schoolers
At this age, we can get a bit more daring. The pre-school age child will enjoy Easter bunny stories and will be excited about the Easter basket hunt and surprise. A classic hiding spot for this age group is in the shower or inside the bathroom or kitchen cupboard. Leave a trail of 'egg droppings' as a clue. Beneath the kitchen table or behind a piece of furniture is also suitable. This age group is not very patient and will not want to search for long before reaching their frustration peak.
Easter Basket Hiding Tips for Elementary Age
The dryer is a favorite Easter Bunny basket hiding spot, one I have reserved for my eight year old son. The wood stove is reserved for my nine year old daughter's Easter basket. Of course, I will have cleaned it by Easter and will leave the door slightly ajar. You may need to give some hints or play "hot or cold" if your child is having trouble finding their basket and is becoming agitated.
Easter Basket Hiding Tips for Adolescents
At this point, your child does not believe in the Easter bunny. That does not mean the fun has to end. I remember enjoying the search for my basket well into my teens. The contents were not even that important, perhaps it is my investigative side shining through.
To make the Easter basket hunt more of a challenge, the outdoors are now fair game. My sister once found her Easter basket hanging from the clothes line! Another great spot is in the garage. I was unable to find my basket one year; I did not get any hints (cruel family, haha). My Easter basket was in the trunk of the car. If your young adult becomes agitated, this tip still works: give them some hints or play "hot or cold."
