Best Holiday Gifts for Couples

Often times, buying for each individual adult at the holidays can be challenging. After all, there are only so many sweaters, gift certificates, accessories, etc., that one person needs. As an alternative to buying individual gifts, consider buying one or two gifts for the couple. Just remember, though, you are buying for two, so double the price you would normally spend per person when setting a budget for your couple gift. There are lots of options that make ideal gifts for couples. Here are some ideas:

* A Gift For Their Mutual Interests. When buying a holiday gift for a couple, consider the things they like to do together and buy accordingly. For instance, if the couple likes fine dining, perhaps a gift certificate to a fine dining restaurant or a gourmet food basket filled with truffles, smoked salmon, pate, a bottle of wine and other fine foods. If they love the theater, gift wrap a certificate to a play or show at their local theater or performing arts center. Or you can do a combo dinner and theater gift. For couples who love to travel, find out where their next adventure will be and fill a gift basket with travel books of the area, film, a gift certificate for an activity in the area they will be visiting, etc. Another great idea for traveling couples is interactive language software that enables them to learn a new language quickly and effectively on their laptop or home computer.

* An Evening of Wine. This is a reasonably priced, yet elegant gift for a couple. Buy some lovely crystal wine glasses and accompany them with a fine bottle of wine. Or you could skip the wine glasses and buy several bottles of wine of different varieties or from different regions of the world. For a personalized touch, see if the wine provider makes custom labels. A number of vineyards offer the option of having personalized labels made with a special message and the recipient's name, as well.

* A Warm And Cozy Gift. Consider gifts that the couple can use when they're snuggling by the fireplace or relaxing cuddled together watching television. Some ideas are a nice warm throw or blanket, or a luxurious comforter. You might also want to consider monogramming the throw or blanket. In addition to being something they can use together, these items will also complement the couple's home decor, so be sure to select a design or pattern that fits their style.

* Small Appliances. Many couples enjoy cooking together, so small appliances would make a useful and practical gift. Consider upgrading a blender, toaster, or mixer with the latest version or browse specialty stores like Williams-Sonoma for items that the couple may not have in their kitchen already.

* Board Games. This is a great gift for couples who entertain, especially young couples. Board games based on popular television shows are always popular every holiday season. Among the choices are board games based on CSI: Miami, Desperate Housewives and The Apprentice. Other great fun board games are the I Love The 80s Game featuring 1980s pop culture trivia from the popular VH1 series.

* Something for the Garden. A yard ornament or garden accent makes a unique and thoughtful gift for a couple. There are plenty of options to consider, depending upon the couple's landscaping. If they have a flower garden, you might want to give them a sitting bench or a personalized stepping stone or marker. If the couple doesn't have a garden, then look at options for the lawn, like a decorative planter, a sundial, a wishing well, or a gazing ball. Another great idea if the couple uses a landscaping service is to give a gift certificate for services provided by their lawn care company for a week.
