Best Irish Pubs in Richmond Virginia

Pub in Richmond Virginia

Kate OLeary
We have a few good Irish Pubs in Richmond, Virginia. The top two that come to mind are O'Toole's on Forest Hill Avenue and the other is Sine' on Cary Street down in the bottom. O'Tooles is the more authentic of the two pubs and has resided in the same location for almost forty years. When you enter you realize that you are entering a bar where everyone really does know your name. The regulars sit at the bar and all others are seated at tables that seat 2 or 4 or 8 or 18. The tables can be put together to make room for anyone and everyone.GA_googleFillSlotWithSize(HELAD_publishercode, "ArticleATFMiddleArticle300x250", 300, 250);

One of the best things about O'Tooles's is the menu. It is a menu of old. One that you might find in an old Greek dinner. You can get potato skins and buffalo wings, platters of hummus, fried mushroom's and pizza. O'Toole's is famous for their onion rings and you can order these separately but they also come with every single hamburger. The waitresses have been there for years and if you are a regular they will know you and your drink will appear two minutes after you are seated. Every night you have special options. The specials range from shepherd pie and a ploughman's platter all the way to a 24 ounce ribebye served with garlic mashed potato's and a clean fresh salad.

The desserts focus on comfort. Apple pie, brownie Sundae's, bread puddings and flan. One of the nicest things about O'Toole's is that like every restaurant in Richmond is has become non-smoking. Allowing you to enjoy your food without breathing in second hand smoke. OToole's offers live music many nights a week. The music is good and lively with that said get a seat far away from the band, the band is loud. If you are looking for a special activity for St. Patrick's Day go EARLY. It is a great party. You will run into people you know and have a blast. With that said if you are drinking take a cab. You want the end of the evening to be as wonderful as the beginning of the day.

Now over to Sine. Sine is a great pub. It is a beautiful restaurant. Polished wood and brash. Selected secret seating. Places for two to rendezvous or for a large Christmas party. The food is good and very authentic. You can order potato soup or Irish nachos. Entrees range from fish and chips to roast beef with Au jus and shepherds pie. The bar at Sine is extraordinary and it is large. You can order Guinness or any other Irish beer along with a large selection of American beers and American drinks. Desserts are a little more mundane but you can spice them up with an Irish Coffee. The services is professional and not as down to earth as O'Toole's but it works for a working lunch.

Sine also has a really good St. Particks Day Party. It tends to draw a younger hipper crowd then O'tooles but both places are fun and make everyone feel like they have been kissed by the Blanery Stone for at least one day.
