Best Jogging Trail in Vernon, NJ

Briana O'Reilly
The 'Boards' is a bridge-like trail of boards that runs over a swamp in Vernon valley. The trail stretches about one mile before the land turns to woods. The swamp is beautiful; in the summer, turtles frequent the logs laying in the swamp. Birds also frequent the bushes on either side of the trail. The trail is flat and, being wood, is easy to run on and less harsh on your shins than asphalt. The trail isn't frequented often, so you'll also have some privacy.
On summer nights, fireflies light up the marsh like strands of ethereal Christmas lights.
The 'boards' section of the trail is about one mile long, but you can continue into the wood and run another two miles before the trail becomes steep.
You can find the entrance to the trail on the guardrail side of County Route 517, between Meadowlark Road and Carol Drive.
