The lake City Shooting Range is near Kansas City and is run by the Missouri Department of Conservation. There are on-going classes on gun handling at the range. In particular, there are classes for men and for women on basic handgun safety during June and July. Reserve spots for these training sessions by June 14, and July 10 by calling them for more information. If you can't make those dates there are several more scheduled. The courses do not fulfill Concealed Carry requirement, but they're free. I would try a couple of them just to get a feel for holding a gun and to learn something about how to handle one-a good place to start. The Missouri Department of Conservation also is planning a summer outdoor camp that will include some firearm training for youth. Camp Coyote is held each summer for disadvantaged and minority youth and it's a great experience they really appreciate. A similar camp is being held in the Kansas City area for one week this summer for the Ad hoc Group Against Crime Organization. This experience would enrich a child in many other ways, while training him or her about some of the basics of handling firearms and about general gun safety. Contact them to see if they have a gun safety scheduled for their week-long camp this summer in Kansas City. 4750 Troost Ave./ Kansas City, MO 64110/ Phone: (816) 759-7300 ext. 2228/ Email: helene.miller@mdc.mo.gov.
Missouri Shooter, LLC offers Basic & Advanced Concealed Carry Training on two Saturdays in May and two in June this year. The courses cost $115 and are held at the Show-Me Shooter's Indoor Range just about 10 miles north of Kansas City off I-35. There are some very interesting classes as well as the basic Carry Training that you should definitely look at as well. These are all-day classes from 9-5:30 and should train everyone in all aspects of handgun safety, maintenance, storage, and many other areas of interest. But For just $35 their Legal Module will train people in the very necessary laws and regulations regarding gun use rights of citizens in Kansas and Missouri. The course is open and if you are going to own and potentially someday have to use your weapon for self-defense, this course is an absolute necessity. There is gun rental available for all students. Register for a class online or call and get more information about registering in person at 816-898-3320 or 816-455-2491. Their courses also train people how to avoid trouble and what safety measures to take so that gun use will be the last option. Missouri
