Best Karaoke Duets

A List of the Ten Best Duets for Karaoke Night

Scott Allan
The list of the best karaoke duets includes some party tunes guaranteed to make people smile and other more serious tunes to show off your harmonizing skills.

Here's a list of ten of the best karaoke duets. Find a partner, grab a microphone, and start singing!

Best Karaoke Duet #10: Endless Love
"Endless Love" edges out "Proud Mary" for the final spot because it's a beautiful duet when harmonized correctly. Most karaoke performances are just for fun, but with this song you can really blow people away with your singing. If you have a choice, opt for the Lionel Richie-Diana Ross arrangement rather than the Luther Vandross-Mariah Carey version.

Best Karaoke Duet #9: Close My Eyes Forever
One of the most overlooked gems of the '80s, this gem by Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford was one of the era's best hair metal ballads. If the crowd at your karaoke bar is more of a rock crowd, and old enough to remember the '80s, this should be your duet of choice.

Best Karaoke Duet #8: Paradise by the Dashboard Light
"Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is hilariously fun to sing, but like most Meat Loaf songs it's also incredibly long. If you're at a really crowded bar with lots of people waiting to sing, choosing this song might draw you some nasty looks for taking up eight minutes of everyone's time.

Best Karaoke Duet #7: I Got You Babe
This Sonny & Cher classic is a little too cliché to appear higher on the list. But it's still guaranteed to bring laughter all around. It's also incredibly easy to sing, except for a few high notes during the bridge. You'll probably get people to sing along if you perform this one.

Best Karaoke Duet #6: I've Had the Time of my Life
Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes scored a hit with this fun track from Dirty Dancing. The only drawback for this song is that it's more than 20 years old now and doesn't get a lot of airplay these days, so the younger crowd might not recognize it.

Best Karaoke Duet #5: Under Pressure
This Queen and David Bowie number is under-utilized when it comes to karaoke. Maybe because it's challenging - good luck trying to hit Freddie Mercury's notes!. This song also works as a good psych-out, because when the opening notes start, those who aren't paying close attention may think you're about to sing "Ice Ice Baby."

Best Karaoke Duet #4: Don't Go Breaking My Heart
Few duets are as fun as Elton John and Kiki Dee's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," a 1976 smash hit that is just as enjoyable today. This song is a karaoke favorite - even characters on Family Guy did a karaoke version on one episode.

Best Karaoke Duet #3: Total Eclipse of the Heart
"Total Eclipse of the Heart" is a darker song than some of the others, but it's still fun. Especially if you have a girl singing Bonnie Tyler's lines and a guy doing the "turn around bright eyes" parts in falsetto.

Best Karaoke Duet #2: Summer Nights
This Grease duet by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John is a lot of fun to sing if you like the movie. But you have to know your audience. This is probably the most overdone karaoke duet, so if you're at a place that has a bunch of karaoke regulars, your performance will probably be received with complete indifference, because they've heard it so many times before.

Best Karaoke Duet #1: I Knew You Were Waiting for Me
This classic by Aretha Franklin and George Michael is mysteriously absent from most karaoke duet lists but it's my personal favorite. If both of you know the words, this performance can be a killer. The interplay between Aretha and George is frequent and enjoyable, leading to a really fun duet. Try it next time you're at karaoke night!
