Best Kept Secrets on the Emerald Coast: Where To Eat on Fort Walton Beach

Danielle Dean
With summer approaching every one is gearing up for that trip to the beach. I lived and worked in Fort Walton Beach for three years. I've had the enjoyment of getting to be a tourist all year long. Although Fort Walton has incredible seafood, the true hidden gems with the shortest wait times are their other restaurants, so I'm going to let in one a few local secrets of where to dine.

Buffalo's Reef

When you think about eating on the beach, I know the first thing that comes to mind is fish. But what if I was to tell you the must eat at place is a wings place? Buffalo's Reef is definitely the place to visit while you are in Fort Walton. They have the best wings around and if you ask the waitresses, they will tell you it is not uncommon for the first place deployed members of Eglin Air Force Base to visit when they come home to be Buffalo's Reef. If some one in your family doesn't enjoy wings, don't worry there is a lot more than just wings on the menu. Make sure to try some friend pickles while you are there. Just make sure you get there early and beat the crowd.

Coach N Four Steak House

This is another local's secret. They serve probably to best steak around in Fort Walton. If you are craving fish, they serve a great surf and turf. They also offer quick service and the wait staff is always friendly.

Manhattan Deli & Pizzeria

This is the best pizza you will find in the Fort Walton Beach area. They offer a New York style pizza that is unbelievable. Huge slices and unbelievable sauce will make this a hit with the whole family.

Hog's Breath Saloon

Not exactly secret, but a must stop at location just the same. Great BB&Q and friendly staff. Make sure you get a t-shirt at the gift store, seems like no matter where you go you will spot some one with their shirt!

Doughnut Hole & Bakery

This is a late night must. They have all the best sweets and great coffee. One of their most popular items is their Key Lime Pie.

Big Apple Bagels

I used to stop at Big Apple Bagels most mornings on the way to work. They have a large choice of bagels, several types of cream cheese, and a large selection of coffees. Great place to stop if you are looking for an inexpensive quick place to eat breakfast.

Taco Town

This is a great Mexican fast food restaurant. They offer generous serves and run daily specials.
