Best Kiddie and Family Rides at Six Flags Great America

Rochelle Connery
Not everyone who buys tickets for Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, intends to hit all the latest thrill rides. Quite often, parents bring young children to the park to enjoy the kiddie rides. Here's some of the best kiddie rides at Six Flags Great America. Pick which ones you want to hit first to avoid walking all over the park and wear out the kids.

Columbia Carousel

As soon as you enter Six Flags Great America you'll see the grand Carousel Plaza, which features a double-decker carousel in front of a glistening blue pool. This is a great photo opportunity for moms and dads who ride with their kids or observe nearby. Children 42 inches and smaller must ride with an adult.

The Columbia Carousel is located in Carousel Plaza park.

Condor

Riddle me this, Batman? What sits between the Superman and Dark Knight roller coasters, is white and blue and spins kids round and round until they're dizzy? The Condor, of course. Children 42 inches or taller can ride the Condor, which spins each car around as the entire ride spins at the same time. This ride is not for those who can't stand going around in circles... like me.

Condor is located in Orleans Place park.

Roaring Rapids

The Roaring Rapids is a raft ride for anyone 36 inches or taller. Though the ride is not lengthy, you, the parent, will be begging for it to be over as the kids have a blast getting soaked. The raft ride features one large drop and twisting, winding turns through a crystal blue pond of rapids.

Roaring Rapids is located in Mardi Gras park.

Logger's Run

This is not your average log ride. The Logger's Run starts riders out on an innocent-looking water coaster of gentle turns, climaxing atop a steep ascent and culminating with an equally steep drop. And yes, you'll get plenty wet in the meantime. Children under 42 inches must ride next to an adult; no lap children are allowed.

Logger's Run is located in Yankee Harbor park.

Whizzer

As one of Six Flags' signature family coasters, the Whizzer allows children 36 inches to 42 inches to ride with an adult; children 42 inches and taller may ride alone. This is a great roller coaster to use as a thrill ride introduction to children who might want to wait a few years before trying more fearsome rides. Plus, it gives younger children the thrill of going on a coaster when older siblings can ride everything in the park.

The Whizzer is located in Hometown Square park.

Chubasco

It looks like spinning teacups... they are, but with a twist. Unlike other parks that limit spin speeds, you get control over how fast or slow your teacup goes as it twirls in unison with other teacups on a track. Children under 42 inches may ride with an adult.

Chubasco is located in Southwest Territory Park.

Scenic Railway Fairgrounds Junction

Parents with very young children may sit with kids on their laps on the Scenic Railway Fairgrounds Junction, a slow train that circles around many Six Flags park sections. The other Scenic Railway stop is located in Hometown Square.
