Best Kids Movies of 2011: Top 5 Family Films Coming to Theaters This Year

5 Children's Movies to Watch in 2011

Bryan Mckinley
2011 is another big year for family movies. There are a few movies like Smurfs, for example, that could be great for children, but for some reason, I'm scared will be more geared to the adults that used to watch them. 2011 on the whole is loaded with kid movies including some much anticipated sequels. There is even on movie that is so highly anticipated that it could be better than all of the best kids movies of 2010. These five family flicks are sure to be among the best this year and there is no doubt that they will be appropriate for kids of all ages.

5. Winnie the Pooh - Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet come to the big screen. This July 15th, 2011, film will not get the hype of a lot of children's movies this year, but it is sure to be a success. With the Smurfs, I worry about how kid friendly it will actually be, where as it is always safe to go with Pooh and friends. How can you go wrong with a lovable bear with a pot of hunny in the Hundred Acre Wood?

4. Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D - Just when you thought Alvin was done getting his little furry self in trouble, the chipmunks make a return. This December 11th kid's movie has one thing different than the last two Alvin movies; it will be released in 3D. "Alvin and the Chipmunks" is another movie that you can feel safe about bringing your children to and maybe even enjoy it yourself.

3. Kung Fu Panda 2 - Jack Black and crew went above and beyond expectations with "Kung Fu Panda" in 2008. When that happens, you can bet on there being a sequel on the horizon. The sequel is sure to be met with loving reception on May 27th at theaters everywhere. Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogan, Jackie Chan and Gary Oldman all return to bring their vocal talents to the theaters for Kung Fu Panda 2.

2. Happy Feet 2- Those joyful dancing penguins are coming back to the movie theaters in 2011 on November 18th. Not only will the sequel have all the great singing and dancing that was in the first movie, but this one joins the 3D craze. New additions to this movie include the pop singer Pink, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.

1. Cars 2 - The only question that should be asked about this sequel is what took so long. I mean c'mon guys, five years. We are talking about a kid's movie that won 17 awards. Lightning McQueen and even Mater items are still selling well in stores, which means kids are going to eat up this sequel. If "Cars 2" can follow up with even half of the success of the first movie, than it should be the movie of the year to bring the whole family to.
