The LEGO themed sets have been extremely popular since their initial release. The list of Best LEGO Sets for this 2011 Christmas and early into 2012 include sets fashioned after popular movies and characters. This list of "Best LEGO Sets" was assembled based on consumer feedback and reviews and also from recent reports on the top selling LEGO sets.
LEGO makes sets for all age ranges and abilities and they clearly mark this information on the packaging. The top 3 from my "Best" list which are described below have the appropriate ages shown for each also:
LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar Set - for kids 6-14 years:
Here is a clever, seasonal concept by LEGO - the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar Set - for kids 6-14 years. Your kids can build some holiday fun and make that count down to Christmas go a little faster. Each day for 24 days they can open a door to reveal a different LEGO City-themed gift. But they will have to beware of robbers trying to steal the gifts. They may have to help the policemen in a mini police car catch the robbers who are escaping on the snowmobile. Each day will expose a new adventure to act out. They can also build larger models with the LEGO bricks from 3 different gift days! The 24 LEGO City gifts include 6 mini figures (even Santa), several vehicles, a police dog and a Christmas tree. A total of 232 pieces to keep the kids creatively occupied for...well...at least 24 days!
LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon Set - for kids 9-14 years:
Your kids can build and experience an escape scene from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope with this LEGO Star Wars Millennium Falcon Set - for kids 9-14 years. There are 1,254 pieces in this large set to re-create the Mellennium Falcon ship. The ship features a hull that opens to reveal a detailed interior, rotating laser turrets, flick missiles, laser cannons and a detachable cockpit cover. The craft measures over 15 inches wide and 4 inches tall when completed. Included in the set are 6 minifigures of the main Star Wars characters plus 7 weapons. Your kids will be able to relive their favorite scenes again and again from their favorite Star Wars movies.
LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Black Pearl Set - for kids 9-16 years:
Calling all pirate, or in particular, Jack Sparrow fans! This LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean Black Pearl Set- for kids 9-16 years is a challenging build. Having said that, the two instruction booklets that are included are easy to follow. Once the body of the ship's hull is put together, the remaining details are fun and easier to add. Every facet of the legendary Black Pearl is included in this LEGO version for an extremely accurate portrayal. Included are the figurehead statue on the bow, cannons on the gun deck, fabric sails on the masts and a moveable anchor. The 804 pieces include 6 minifigures (including Captain Jack Sparrow himself), weapons, a telescope and compass. The completed ship is over 2 feet long and 20 inches high. One word of caution, it will not float!
LEGO toys really engage a youngsters creative mind as well as their motor skills. Any of these top 3 sets or others from my complete list of Best LEGO Sets 2011 for the gift giving season and into 2012 will please and entertain any youngster of the appropriate age.
