Family nights often involve a movie and some popcorn. Most families rely on family moviemakers like Disney to make quality films that are safe for kids to watch. Animated films like "Beauty and the Beast" or feature films like "Pirates of the Caribbean" are sure bets for popularity with the family. Once you have viewed these films a few times, kids and adults lose interest. Disney has other movies perfect for a family movie night. Here are the four best little known Disney movies for families.

Child of Glass

This made for television movie was produced in 1978. Based on a novelette called "The Ghost Belonged to Me" by Richard Peck, this mysterious story is about a boy and a friendly ghost. Cursed by the pirate that killed her hundreds of years ago, Inez the French ghost girl needs Alexander's help to solve the mystery and break the curse. This movie is not too scary for little ones and has some interesting Disney movie effects. This little known movie will become a family favorite.

Apple Dumpling Gang

Starring Don Knotts and Tim Conway, this little known Disney movie is about a group of orphans that fall into the hands of a slick gambler played by Bill Bixby. The children fight inept crooks who steal the children's gold. Other stars like Harry Morgan and Slim Pickens play hilarious roles in this little known Disney movie. This western comedy is an ideal choice for families on a chili and chip night.

Blackbeard's Ghost

In 1968, Disney produced Blackbeard's Ghost starring Peter Ustinov and Suzanne Pleshette. When Steve Walker moves to the seacoast town of Godolphin, he encounters the spirit of the sometimes brutal, sometimes hilarious Blackbeard. Steve Walker receives help from Suzanne Pleshette's character Jo Anne Baker to save Blackbeard's Inn from purchase by casino owners. Many things go wrong in this film but Blackbeard saves the day with the help of his earthly companion Steve.

Pete's Dragon

Produced in 1977 this film is a mix of live-action and animated musical. A young orphan boy named Pete finds a friend in an old dragon, Elliott. The dragon has the power to become invisible and decides to become the protector of Pete. Other voices featured in the film are Helen Reddy, Mickey Rooney and Red Buttons. Dr. Terminus is the enemy of the mystical dragon and attempts to capture him to steal his powers for himself. This is a film worth seeing with your family anytime.
