The downtown area of Danville, VA is quietly filling with small businesses including coffee shops. Whether you are looking for something fancy or something sweet, you'll find it at one of my favorite local coffee shops in downtown Danville. Here is a list of a few of my favorites and what they offer.

The Brown Bean

The Brown Bean is a small coffee shop and restaurant located on Memorial Drive in Danville, VA. It is attached to the one of the town's most popular stores, The Gingerbread House. The Brown Bean offers everything from plain coffee to specialty drinks at modest prices. They offer a full lunch menu and plenty of seating. I highly recommend the tomato basil soup and the turkey sandwich. The Brown Bean offers comfortable chairs and couches where you can relax with friends and sip your latte or frappacino. When you finish you can head through the doorway into the Gingerbread House and shop around for beautiful home decor or gourmet foods. The best part is that the Gingerbread House has a coffee grinding station where you can purchase your favorite flavors that the Brown Bean has and take them home to enjoy again later.

Mainstreet Coffee Emporium

Located in historic downtown Danville, VA the Mainstreet Coffee Emporium offers a huge selection of coffees that are ground fresh on location daily. You can smell the coffee from down the street. This local coffee shop offers a huge selection of specialty drinks. My favorite cold drink would be the Grasshopper- a mix of coffee, chocolate, and mint. For a hot drink, I stop in for the Milky Way Steamer. The coffee shop offers a punch card so that frequent visitors often get a drink on the house. Mainstreet Coffee Emporium offers a full lunch menu, but are most well known for their chicken salad sandwiches. The coffee shop offers free wi-fi to customers and outdoor seating. Prices at this local coffee shop are competitive with those at most chain coffee shops. Get there early, Mainstreet Coffee Emporium is closed by 3:00.

Bronx Boy Bagels

While really more of a deli, Bronx Boy Bagels offers a selection of hot and cold coffee as well. Located across the street from Main Street Coffee Emporium, it can make choosing your coffee spot very difficult. The advantage to Bronx Boy Bagels is that they are open much later in the evening. On many weekends Bronx Boy Bagels offers open mic nights and live music for you to enjoy. There is a full menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It is a very interesting place that makes you feel like you are in downtown New York instead of Danville, VA. They have an upstairs area and a patio out back that is very close to the Dan River. My favorite coffee choice at Bronx Boy Bagels is the Caramel Iced Coffee.
