exchange rate bet-
ween the Euro and
the U.S. dollar,
Peugeot is consid-
ering a possible
return to the U.S.
auto market.
And what car might
well be the best look-
ing for 25K? Well,
take a look at the
2011 Peugeot RCZ
GT.
The RCZ GT combines the proven and relatively simple mechanical
components of the PSA transverse front-drive 'platform 2' of Peugeot
and Citroen cars. It has a much-admired 2+2 shape of the RCZ concept
released at the Frankfurt Auto Show just over two years ago. The RCZ
GT is the first French threat to the Audi TT and Volkswagen Scirocco.
The engine choices are two versions of the 1.6-liter turbo making
154 hp and 197 hp. Also, a 2.0-liter turbo diesel provides 161 hp.
The power goes through a 6-speed manual transmission. And the
0-60 time for the 1.6-liter 154 hp engine is in 8 seconds with a top
speed of 135 mph. The fuel economy is 42.1 mpg. Expect the
diesel engine to provide about the same 0-60 time but over 50
mpg.
The 1.6-liter engine is reported to be very refined at low revs
and the turbo's power is linear and very drivable without any
turbo lag.
Some drivers might prefer a bit more excitement at the redline,
however, the majority of buyers will likely be professionals in
suits who will be using the RCZ GT for urban transport that
fits this car very well.
This coupe has sporting lines on the outside and the interior
provides a logical layout and brighter appearance that makes
this Peugeot more upscale than past offerings. The cockpit is
roomy up front and easy to access with the car's large doors.
The rear seat folds down to provide good cargo carrying capacity.
On the road, the RCZ GT is a fun car to drive with good steering
feel, tight handling, and good grip. The ride is supple rather than
hard core stiff. Thus, the RCZ GT soaks up urban concrete but
provides a comfortable ride for longer cruising.
If the Peugeot RCZ GT comes to the U.S. should you buy one?
Yes, if you enjoy driving and you want to impress people. The
RCZ GT is not only fun to drive and practical, but it is a far
better looking car than many others you can buy for the money.
