Best Love Songs Written About Real People

Wayne Cochran: Last Kiss

Made famous by J. Frank Wilson & the Cavaliers in the 1960's, this song was written about a 16-year old girl, Jeanette Clark who was killed in a car accident three days before Christmas while on a date. The driver and another teen in the car were also killed when their car struck a flatbed logging truck in Barnesville, Georgia. You might remember the lyrics, "Where oh where can my baby be? The Lord took her away from me..."

John Denver: Annie's Song

The song was written for John Denver's beloved wife, Annie.

Buddy Holly: Peggy Sue

The song was originally written about Buddy Holly's niece Cindy Lou. The song title was later changed to Peggy Sue, the future wife of Cricket's drummer Jerry Allison.

Eric Clapton: Tears in Heaven

The song was written in grief for Clapton's four-year-old son, Conor, who died tragically after falling from a New York City Apartment.

Ritchie Valens: Donna

This song was written for Valens high school sweetheart, Donna Ludwig.

The Beatles: Hey Jude

Paul McCartney and John Lennon wrote this song to help young Julian Lennon deal with the divorce of his parents.

Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter: Leather and Lace

Waylon Jennings asked Stevie Nicks to write a song for them. When Waylon and Jessi split, Stevie recorded the song with Don Henley, but later Waylon and Jessi also recorded it.

Sting: Lady in Red

Written by Chris De Burgh, aka Chris Davidson, after a fight with his wife Diane. Chris titled the song, The Way You Look Tonight, but didn't finish it. There was already a song with that title. He finished the song five months later when he saw his wife looking very good in red.

Eric Clapton's song Tears in Heaven was written about his father. It completely changes the context and meaning . . . although, it is still an incredibly moving song.

I believe the song you're looking for , Bella, is "I Love You" by "Climax Blues Band." It starts out with, "When I was a younger man, I hadn't a care."

I know this article is subjective but I can think of two awesome tear-jerkers better than any of the ones mentioned. "Alone Again, Naturally" by Gilbert O'sullivan and "Seasons In The Sun" by Terry Jacks.
