Best Low Carb Wraps and Tortillas for Diabetics and Dieters

Stephanie Dray
In the old days, eating low carb meant saying goodbye to sandwiches and Mexican food. Without wraps for spiral sandwiches or tortillas to make enchiladas, diabetics and dieters had to live with deprivation. Times have changed, and now, there are several low carb wraps and tortillas to choose from. But how can you know which one is best without having to buy them all? Here's a side-by-side comparison of the top four brands:

For a long time, La Tortilla Factory dominated the low carb wrap and tortilla market. The nutritional profile of La Tortilla Factory's wraps are fantastic. They're low fat, low sugar, low carb, and loaded with fiber. The large burrito sized wraps are only 80 calories, which make them perfect for diabetics and dieters. They even come in flavored varieties like green onion and garlic. The problem? La Tortilla Factory's low carb wraps and tortillas always tasted like health food. When they first came out, they were certainly tastier than anything else on the market, but they have a distinct earthy taste that not everyone cares for.

Even so, La Tortilla Factory brand remained, and still remains, superior to Mission's low carb wraps and tortillas. Mission's products have more carbs per wrap and nearly double the calories. A 200 calorie burrito sized tortilla is bad news for both diabetics and dieters. The taste of the Mission tortillas and wraps is quite good, but the texture is breadier and more flexible than one would expect.

Improving on Mission's flexible texture is a newcomer to the low carb wrap and tortilla market:Tofuyan. Tofuyan's wraps have a healthy nutritional profile, with 8 grams of fiber. Tofuyan low carb wraps taste better than La Tortilla Factory's, and at 140 calories per wrap, they're a better choice than the Mission tortillas. But the burrito sized wraps are 7 net carbs each-a little high for most diabetics and dieters.

That's where Mama Lupe's Low Carb Tortillas come in. The taste and texture of Mama Lupe's Low Carb Tortillas are spot on. The starchy mouthfeel to Mama Lupe's tortillas will have you wondering how something so delicious could possibly be good for you. You can serve these low carb tortillas to company and no one would know the difference. Mama Lupe's are 60 calories per tortilla and three net grams of carbs, which give them a winning nutritional profile as well. The only drawback is that Mama Lupe's low carb tortillas don't come in a larger size. Even so, Mama Lupe's makes the best low carb tortilla on the market, so it might be worth wrapping up two smaller sandwiches instead of one large one.
