Best Magazines with Low-Fat Recipes

Miko Amaranthine
Whether you are dieting to lose weight or just trying to get a better grasp on a healthy lifestyle, it is hard to find low-fat recipes that are simple and easy. Here are my top ten magazine choices for low-fat recipes.

Magazine #1: Kiwi Magazine

Among the many cooking/baking recipe magazines that I purchase yearly, this is a newer one to my collection that was not available a few months ago. I am uncertain as to when the magazine started however it is a wonderful magazine that contains countless recipes that are low in fat and healthy. It basically is a magazine that has the latest in natural and organic living techniques and advice and puts a great evinces on raising a healthy child and family. Hence, this is a parenting magazine but the recipes are wonderful for all ages and the best part about parenting magazines is that the recipes are fast and simple for the busy person. I love this magazine since it has terrific low-fat recipes and all of them are completely edible for the children in the family also. There is nothing better than making one meal that the entire family can eat together!

Magazine #2: Vegetarian Times

This is another one of my favorite recipe magazines for low-fat recipes that are good for just about anyone around the world. The ingredients of the recipes that come in each magazine are easy to recreate and easy to put together on a small budget. There are recipes that are not low-fat but most of the time the recipes are not only vegetarian but also healthy for the body and most special diets. The recipes are also good for entire families, minus a few of them that children may not appreciate until an older age if young. I love the special holiday editions that help cooks/bakers with recipes to serve on the holiday table for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike.

Magazine #3: Cooking Light

Cooking Light is the magazine for meat lovers that are looking for low-fat recipes while still keeping the meat on the table. Normally the recipes are not vegetarian or vegan, each magazine usually contains less than a handful of vegetarian recipes is any at all. There are plenty of low-fat recipes that contain some sort of meat in it. The recipes are easy to follow and around half of them are not too expensive to purchase the ingredients needed. In my opinion though it was hard to find a lot of the ingredients in small grocery stores since the ingredients were specialized. If you are looking for low-fat recipes though and live in a larger city, I highly suggest this magazine to the meat-lover.

Magazine #4: Eating Well

This is another magazine that I enjoyed while I was eating meat entrees. Each magazine contains a recipes that are low-fat but many are not vegetarian. I highly suggest this magazine for its simple recipes and easy to find ingredients. It is not the perfect magazine for vegan/vegetarians though.

Magazine #5: Fitness Magazine

For those of you that live in smaller cities and many options are not available, I suggest trying to look for this magazine. Every grocery store that contains magazines has had this one, so I am sure that it will be available for just about everyone nationally and some internationally. This magazine is mainly published for women and it also has a men's fitness available in stores now. I like this magazine sometimes since it gives simple and easy recipes that are low-fat too. It is for a busy person that is trying to get ahead while eating lower fat containing entrees. It has recipes that are for beginner to intermediate levels.

Magazine #6: Prevention Magazine

This is a women's magazine that my mother actually enjoys for its pleasant mix of healthy low-fat recipes and health advice on how to maintain health or achieve it. Each magazine contains at least a few recipes that are low-fat and simple to make. It usually does not contain vegan recipes, rather only vegetarian for low-fat recipes. It does help "seasoned" women with getting healthy and contains some recipes that are fit for the older generations.

Magazine #7: Taste of Home

This is another one of my mother's favorite low-fat magazines available on the market. It contains low-fat recipes that are perfect for the entire family. The part that my mother and I really enjoy about this magazine is the "special holiday" editions that come out. Each year for Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and so on the magazine comes out with plenty of recipes that are perfect to cook for large crowds of people and are tasty. It is also good all year-around. The recipes range from beginner to intermediate levels.

Magazine #8: Body and Soul

This is not a magazine that I regularly subscribe to however I do pick it up in the stores occasionally. I am mostly a vegetarian/vegan, hence this magazine is not 100% what I look for in recipes. Fortunately though for you non-vegan's this magazine is available for low-fat recipes that are good for the entire family. I do regularly purchase this magazine though since it contains helpful information on ingredients and I enjoy some of the monthly recipes available. Each low-fat recipe that it contains has information as to why human consumption is necessary. For instance, a recipe with pumpkin provides information on the vitamins that the pumpkin provides to the body. In addition, the magazine gives helpful recipes that are extremely fast for those people that never seem to have enough time to cook at home.

Magazine #9: Bon Appétit

Leading the charts for chef created recipes is the popular Bon Appétit magazine that many are familiar with for its tasty but high calories recipes. At least this is what I had heard from many friends that enjoy cooking also. It was not until I signed up to receive a free magazine what Bon Appétit had to offer its subscribers. I was amazed to find that it contains many recipes that are low-fat in each magazine. It is under-rated in my opinion since it contains many delicious professional chef-created recipes that are not only tasty but are in-fact healthy for the entire family. This recipe is a great addition to my kitchen since it has many different recipes in each edition for vegetarian, low-calorie, low-fat and so much more. The only negative comment I have about this cooking magazine is that it does not contain many vegan recipes. So, if you are looking for low-fat and vegan recipes I would suggest one of the vegetarian magazines above. For everyone else, I highly recommend this magazine. The recipes have different levels for beginner to professional cooks.

Magazine #10: Alive Magazine

This is another new magazine to our stores and it hails from our Northern neighbors, Canada. It has been in publication for around thirty years but is just as good as the newer magazines on the market in America. It contains many different types of recipes especially those that are low in fat. I have fallen in love with this magazine since it contains many different types of recipes that are influenced by different countries around the world. It has some amazing lo-fat recipes that I never would have thought of doing on my own. The recipes are easy to recreate and are excellent for the entire family.
