There are three Mexican restaurants in Haleiwa starting with Killer Tacos. Killer tacos are located in a very small strip mall and are easy to miss when you first drive through town. If you are looking for it keep your eyes peeled for the Tesoro gas station, it is right next door. Okay, my honest opinion is it did not really impress me. Perhaps it was the food I got. At any rate it is a fast food Mexican joint and perfect if you are in a rush or on the go. If you have some time I would suggest checking out your other two choices.
In the heart of Haleiwa is Rosie's Cantina. Rosie's is an older Mexican restaurant and as far as I can remember it has been around for over 15 years. The food is okay, the only one complaint I had was the carnitas tasted more like Kalua Pig. I do enjoy their desserts though. They have an excellent deep fried ice cream that you definitely have to try if you are there. The prices are reasonable, the food is okay and it is more of a sit down type of restaurant.
Now if you want the best Mexican food in Haleiwa, I would suggest heading over to Cholo's. It is always packed and for good reason. When you walk in, it reminds you of one of the older Mexican Restaurants in the Southwest. Kind of like the ones you might find in Tucson or Old Town San Diego. The food is awesome and filling, with the portions being pretty big. There is something for every one and they also have a case full of Mexican trinkets and treasures.
If you love Mexican food and are hungry after a day at the beach on the north shore, then head on down to Haleiwa town and experience the best they have to offer. There are many different restaurants to choose from, but if you are in the mood for Mexican food then look no further. My choice would be Cholo's and if you are down there it should be yours as well.

I'm a Big fan of Mexican food, I lived in Mexico for 20 years and experienced the most exquisite dishes I ever had. The only good Mexican food on North shore was Lulu's a small food stand on Waialua, but sadly they closed down a couple of months ago. Leaving us with the three establishments the author writes about, to be honest Cholo's if far from having a decent Mexican dish; I would recommend the Salsa Verde Pork at Rosita's Cantina, is not half bad. Sorry to contradict the author but the carnitas dish is pretty similar in Mexico just go to Carnitas Uruapan Restaurant in Tijuana.
