Best Mexican Restaurants in Indianapolis

Adam Hughes
The proliferation of Taco Bell restaurants in the last 30 years is testament to the fact that Americans love Mexican food, even if most aficionados would argue with "The Bell's" designation as such. The recent growth of other Mexican chains such as Don Pablo's, Qdoba, and La Bamba provide us with lots of options to get our spicy fix. Beyond the normal suspects, though, Indianapolis is home to some great Mexican spots sure to tempt your taste buds. Here are some of the best in town.

Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant and Cantina

The Puerto Vallarta is a local favorite that offers a great atmosphere for business lunches, family dinners, or that special night out. In addition to the standard Mexican fare, Puerto Vallarta offers daily specials that include outstanding fajitas and several innovative egg dishes. A full complement of drink choices is offered to enhance your meal, and the staff is friendly and the service, fast. Add in very reasonable prices, and Puerto Vallarta is hard to beat.

El Meson, LLC

"Authentic" is the word that probably best describes the El Meson experience. From the fragrant aromas to the festive music to the beautiful colors, El Meson brings you the experience of eating in a quaint Mexican neighborhood. Daily specials include an array of burritos, arroz con carne, and generous fajitas, but El Meson offers a full menu that is sure to contain your favorite. With a full cantina that stays open late on the weekends, El Meson can fill your whole night. And, since the restaurant was recently named to "2008 Best of Indianapolis Award in the Mexican Restaurants", you can be sure that they're doing all they can to make your visit special.

El Rodeo

El Rodeo is technically a chain restaurant, but you won't find cookie-cutter tacos or reheated beans here. In fact, El Rodeo is known for its fresh salsa, tempting enchiladas, and delicious nachos with cheese sauce. In addition, El Rodeo also offers full cantina service, and their margaritas are a salty treat. What's more El Rodeo is truly and Indianapolis phenomenon, as the restaurant was founded in Indy in 1995 and has quickly spread its influence over the Midwest. Be prepared for fast, friendly service and lots of tasty, affordable food.

By now, your appetite for some delicious comida is sure to be raging to a boil. Head on out and take advantage of some of the awesome Mexican cuisine that Indianapolis has to offer!
