Mexico City - Smithfield Street Pittsburgh, PA
I first discovered this delicious Pittsburgh Mexican restaurant back in 2005, while working downtown at GNC's Corporate Headquarters. Mexico City's authentic Mexican cuisine is amazing. Like at many Mexican restaurants your lunch or dinner begins with a bowl of piping hot tortilla chips served with fresh salsa. The chips are light, fresh, and a perfect starter to your meal. My favorite dish is the chicken chimichanga or the Pittsburgh favorite, black and gold burrito. Mexico City's restaurant staff is among the friendliest in Pittsburgh. The food is affordable and tasty. Lunch for two will run around $25 and dinner is not much more. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in Pittsburgh check out Mexico City.
Azulbary Cantina - 122 Broad Street Leetsdale, PA
Patrons simply refer to this lovely Mexican Restaurant located near Sewickley, Pennsylvania as "Azul". This Pittsburgh Mexican restaurant is housed in an unassuming red brick building in an industrial section of town. The ambience inside the restaurant is chic and casual. I was surprised at how busy the restaurant was when I stopped by for Happy Hour several months ago. Azul has a nice bar area and the margaritas are quite good. What I liked best about this Pittsburgh Mexican restaurant is the light food choices offered. It is not often that you are able to find fish tacos served at a Mexican restaurant in Pittsburgh. Azul is the perfect choice for diners looking for hard to come by lighter fare Mexican dishes.
Mad Mex - Several Locations in the Pittsburgh Area
Mad Mex is a Pittsburgh based chain restaurant owned by the Big Burrito Company. There are Mad Mex locations in Oakland, Robinson Township, Mt. Lebanon and in the North Hills areas of Pittsburgh. Mad Mex is the perfect place to stop for happy hour. They serve some of the best and biggest margaritas in Pittsburgh. The Mexican food is really good too. Mad Mex offers several vegetarian choices like burritos stuffed with chickpeas, rice, cheese and salsa, and quesadillas made with black beans and pineapple. Meat eaters should try Mad Mex's "carnita burritos". These burritos filled with shredded pork are absolutely delicious. Mad Mex is the perfect Pittsburgh Mexican restaurant for those looking for a fun place to eat with big servings and even bigger margaritas.
