Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park
This splendid little zoo, located in the city of Syracuse, is the perfect size for those who want to experience the enormous variety of animal life without having to walk around an enormous zoo. This midsize zoo in the northeast is home to a number of exotic animals, including Amur tigers, Asian elephants, African lions, siamangs, and an ocelot. Admission to the zoo is quite reasonably priced at around $7, and they are very kind-friendly, so this is a great zoo to visit for the entire family.
Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium
Verging on the upper edge of mid-sized, the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium is one of the foremost attractions in Pittsburgh. They have a number of excellent exhibits that are home to animals from all over the world. They hare home to some of the most endangered animals in the world, including Amur Tigers, African Elephants, numerous species of bears, primates, and a topnotch aquarium that is home to numerous species of fish and other aquatic animals. With its extensive collection of animals and its venerable history, it's no wonder that the Pittsburgh Zoo is one of the best midsize zoos in the Northeast.
Seneca Park Zoo
Located in the lovely city of Rochester, New York, the Seneca Park Zoo, although on the smaller side of mid-sized, is home to a wide variety of animals from all over the world. Animals on display include African elephants, orangutans, golden lion tamarin, American river otters, white rhinos, and many more. Admission to the Seneca Park Zoo typically ranges between $7-$9, so it is a quite affordable vacation solution.
Ross Park Zoo
Although they've faced some trouble in the past due to mismanagement, the Ross Park Zoo has managed to bounce back and is now one of the best midsize zoos in the northeast. For all that they are a smaller zoo, they have a number of animals that are definitely worth seeing, including Amur tigers, Amur leopards, gray timber wolves, American alligators, and the North American river otter. Admission is $7 for adults, with decreasing rates for children and seniors. They are definitely worth visiting, especially if you're in this particular area of New York.
